Also, the fact that even if Jake isn't the reason she got sick, but it was potentially due to Wesker cause, she was a loose end during his time pretending to be a good guy, and the man she was in love with killed her. Also, a side note, I fully believe he acted like a completely different person to Mrs. Muller due to him being in the US military at the time, and to blend in, he pretended to be an average guy, so he had to fake a relationship. Then he may have started to actually feel something (very slightly nothing too deep) and realized she was a liability to him, aka his goals, so he broke it off with her harshly.
