Perhaps because 2 million voters who voted for the Democratic Nominee four years earlier, did not show up to vote for her in 2024, the Presidential nominee from their own home state? There is some strange assumption that *she* would moon walk into Governorship. But California Democrat who shed 2 million voters in four years, while Trump GAINED voters between 20 to 24 in California ... at some point has to reckon with the quality of their own candidacy and appeal in that state. This isn't overly complicated. For her sake, she absolutely made the right call to sit this out.

In California, the government collects far more per gallon of gasoline than Chevron (or any refiner) earns in profit.
Latest data (CA Energy Commission/EIA, Jan-Mar 2026):
- Taxes & fees: ~$0.90–$1.31/gal (state excise tax 61.2¢, federal 18.4¢, sales tax/UST ~12–14¢, cap-and-trade/LCFS ~23–37¢+).
- Refiner gross margin (costs + profit): ~40–60¢/gal.
- Chevron's net profit share per gallon: typically under 20¢ after all costs.
Taxes win by a wide margin. The Reuters earnings note in the quote reflects global upstream ops, not CA retail gas.

NYC spent $81,705 per homeless person last year.. the median American household earned $81,228.. the government spent MORE to keep someone homeless than most families earned to keep themselves housed..
that $81,705 isn't going to the homeless person.. it's going to the system around them.. shelters, administrators, case managers, contracts, overhead.. the industry that manages homelessness.. not the end of it..
if NYC gave every homeless person that money directly.. they could afford nearly 2 years of rent.. most of them wouldn't be homeless anymore..
instead the money goes to the system.. the system keeps running.. the homelessness stays.. and every year they ask for more funding to manage the problem that the funding was supposed to solve..
the homeless are worth $81,705 a year to the system..
they're worth nothing to it solved..
