@mmonis Ah, that's an interesting approach, thanks for the explanation!
Do you use mental stops at these structures (higher lows) or a hard stop? Based on studying your style I wouldn't be surprised if you observe how it acts around that level before deciding if you should exit.
@TheTrader_X I offload 50 to 75% at 5R+, bring the position to regular swing size and trail with hourly higher-low, switching to daily higher-low after 3 to 4 days
@HuskyTrader Amazing! I just signed up and will definitely use it from now on! I am curious, where do you get the earnings data from and how has the quality been so far? I have noticed some sources lag or miss recent reports.
Heads up: My old Corporate Earnings Chrome extension is no longer maintained. I've built EarningSpike—better app with same data plus modern UI, smart insights & active updates! Try it: earningspike.com#Earnings#Finance
@stonks_sensei Tom Hougaard has a very similar point in his book "Best Loser Wins". He argues that to be successful in trading you need a very specific mindset, which a majority of the people that try to trade don't have. Those are all centred around losing (some of which you mentioned here)
It's funny how the things that make us good at everything else make us terrible at trading. needing to be right. avoiding uncertainty. following the crowd. seeking approval. the market punishes everything society rewards. maybe that's why most never make it.
@plevchen I see, that makes sense. Do you have a rule when you skip a setup due to upcoming earnings? I'm guessing it's when there is too little time to create a cushion, like less than 3-5 trading days?
If I have a cushion covering the expected earnings move (can Google to see what’s implied by options market as expected move over earnings) I will keep full size. Else, I’ll have to size down or exit completely. Let’s see.
5* action from this setup should mean it’s up cleanly in the next 3-5 trading days.
positions:
$TSLA d-t agst just under vwap (long)
$DPRO anticipation small starter.. building out 5* setup
recent catalyst + defence strong + strong group + explosive volume (HVEx2 in the pole) - getting tight - volume shrinking - surfing 5day
$XXRP mean reversion long 20day MA
$BE EP
Traded $KSS and $OPEN today. vwap reclaim entry on KOSS 12.62 v 12.40 SL, top was near avwap since high gave easy exit on a lower high...
$OPEN took some 2.56-2.6 chopped ard near VWAP final exits sub 2.56.. ended up overtrading it ard vwap for aloss net... so $KSS and $OPEN ended up being a wash all together
@DojiStar11 Do you classify this as strong due to the price action before and on earnings? The earnings/sales don't look special to me but the price action does.
@stamatoudism Thanks for the response. In general, why did you decide to go for the 1/4 partial instead of just relying on selling at signs of weakness?
@asvdbd I leave most of the shares to take advantage of this pehnomenon. First partial is usuallly 1/4 , then I let stocks do their thing until they show signs of weakness. If they don't I wont sell
@stamatoudism I'm curious about your reasoning for selling partials. I understand the advantage of flattening the equity curve and improving the win rate, but doesn't this approach significantly limit the profit on anomaly trades, such as those reaching +50RR?
@mmonis@bookmap_pro Very interesting, thanks for sharing!
In a hypothetical scenario, under what conditions would you decide to enter, knowing that there is a wall of sellers at 99? Strong catalyst?
$CAVA -
@bookmap_pro not only gives a good entry but also prevents from getting into a trade
$CAVA was on my radar this morning. It was an active symbol on "X" as well
Look at $CAVA - The standard breakout level was at 98 (Chart-1).
Referring to @bookmap_pro chart, you will notice a wall of sellers at 99. You can see, how the price was rejected which resulted in a fakeout
(P.S: I am not affiliated with Bookmap, just a usage review of the tool that I like :) )
@stonkdadddy@opher50 I think what he meant was that SMCI had an ADR lower than 10% at the start of it's move on 19th January. As of today it does have an ADR of 11%
If I was starting over with a 25k account, I'd only trade 10+ ADR names until my account hit ~$1,000,000. Seeing people trade >3ADR names while below PDT makes me think that they don't value their own time. #notfinancialadvice#stocks#stonks#swingtrade
