They need to make it so if I buy a game on xbox then I should be able to launch it on the pc app. I hate buying a game like RE9 on the xbox and have to buy a second copy from steam for my Ally. If they could solve this issue then it would be better for those of us who use multiple devices.

Microsoft's most-underrated gaming feature is steadily gaining traction, but big gaps remain — Xbox Play Anywhere report card. Some data from @KoreaXBOXnews shows that Xbox Play Anywhere is growing. windowscentral.com/gaming/xbox/xb… 🔽

That is one way to allow steam on the xbox. If you want to play xbox games then you buy through the xbox. If you want steam then you buy games that are available on steam. Xbox needs to revamp the PC app though. They should survey all pc players about what they like about other stores, don't like, and would like to see improvements. Take all that feedback and build the pc app with those in mind.

@IdleSloth84_ I REALLY doubt they will, but they're doing something that could potentially give them a window to do so, but there's just too much money to be left on the table imo. It was part of a bigger discussion.

@Mareeswj @WinC_Gaming Yes, but the goal is to figure out a way where steam and xbox co-exist. Taking new game releases off of steam will make players decide to use the pc app or not

Does Steam on "Xbox Helix" even make sense with the RAMpocalypse? The next-gen Xbox will be more expensive than ever prob, and without the guarantee users will even buy games via Xbox if it's "open" ... doesn't that break the business model? DISCUSSION: windowscentral.com/gaming/xbox/xb…

@JezCorden How about keep steam on and xbox takes the games off of steam? Let us pc players have to use the xbox pc app. As long as they continue to improve or just revamp it.

How do you prefer your Xbox Helix between these choices? It is open, but the RRP is higher. It's closed, no Steam, but is cheaper. 🤔 🤔 🤔 🤔 🤔 🤔 🤔 🤔

@Daniel_Rubino @JezCorden You can still have steam on the next xbox. This will be the importance of exclusives. They don't have to put the games on steam. Which will get playera to either sub to GP or buy from the store.

I’ve been tracking the evolution of the next-gen Xbox for a while now, and the original pitch for a PC-like, "open" Project Helix is colliding hard with the reality of 2026's tech economics. Which is a shame, but the reality. @JezCorden just published a brilliant, must-read analysis on the site diving into Xbox Helix, the Steam dilemma, and why the original vision may no longer make sense. The crux of the problem? The ongoing "RAMpocalypse." With memory prices at historic highs due to AI infrastructure demand, the traditional console business model is under massive strain. As Jez perfectly points out in the piece: "Closed systems are subsidized by software sales, open systems are not." If Microsoft makes Helix a fully open system, they lose that vital software subsidy. We've already seen the warning signs with the Xbox Ally experiment. Jez notes that internal data showed almost 100% of non-console owning Ally buyers "simply went straight to Steam." If Helix effectively becomes a defacto "Steambox," Microsoft would have to price it like a high-end PC just to break even on the hardware. Nobody wants a $1,000+ Xbox. We're already seeing this with Valve's 2026 Steam Machine, which costs over a grand but is less powerful than current-gen boxes. Plus, the whole industry is shifting again. PlayStation just abandoned PC ports for its single-player games to protect their hardware, and new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma is refocusing on exclusive content to repair the brand. So how does Xbox deliver on Sharma's promise that Helix will "play your PC games" without destroying its own business model? A "Pro" unlock paywall? Curated revenue-sharing with Epic Games? Or an absurdly priced fully-open tier? (1/2)

@JezCorden This is what makes exclusives important. You can have steam on the machine, but no longer put the games on steam. If pc players want to play xbox games then they can play them through the xbox pc app. They should focus on making the app on par with steam.

A BIG elephant in the room with Xbox Helix: An "open" console means BIG price point. ANALYSIS: windowscentral.com/gaming/xbox/xb… (with Xbox Ally user behavior info.) With the RAMpocalypse, PlayStation quitting Steam, and younger gamers choosing mobile games ... does Steam on Helix even make sense anymore?

@JezCorden I have the Rog and an xbox... my biggest issue is if I buy a game on console then I can't access it unless it is play anywhere. It would be great if I bought a game on console and would be able to play it on my ally.

I kinda buried the lede on one thing in these figures, but 75% attach rate for Xbox Game Pass on a non-subsidized piece of "PC" hardware is actually a huge win for Xbox despite the fact Steam owns the non-subscribing user base. That split is gonna be orders of magnitude higher than a standard gaming PC/laptop/prebuilt. Game Pass could be the subsidy model potentially, but it remains to be seen how they'll evolve it. It's a hard truth that more users than ever are non-spending free-to-play gamers right now. Game Pass hedges against that.

@IdleSloth84_ The issue whith the ally is with the lack of games on that are on the xbox and not the PC app. I hate that I can't buy a game on my xbox and play it through the xbox app. I know play anywhere exists, but I don't want to buy 2 copies of a game.

Xbox Helix and Steam — and why it no longer makes sense • Affordability and the “memory crisis” (RAMpocalypse) • PlayStation has decided to stop releasing its single-player games on Steam. • Roughly 75% of Ally owners subscribe to Game Pass. • Among non-subscribers, attach rates to the Xbox PC store are poor: about 25% if they already own an Xbox console, but only 2% if they do not. • New users essentially treat the device as a Steam box. Helix Speculation: • Option 1: Some kind of paywall or subscription to open up to third-party stores. • Option 2: Semi-open, revenue sharing model with Epic Games' on PC or other strategic partners. • Option 3: Fully open, absurd price point and all. via: Jez Corden windowscentral.com/gaming/xbox/xb…

#Xbox

SPECULATION | What's Next For Halo? • Halo games are in the concept stage right now because Campaign Evolved needed help and previous games in development were cancelled to put attention to Campaign Evolved. • Rumor that there's a multiplayer project further in development than thought but he's waiting for reputable sources to provide proof of this. • Halo 2 remake is in development but there's uncertainty whether it will be finished. • A LinkedIn post from Halo Studios technical art director Yibo Liu “I sincerely hope this game leads to even more great things in the future” which Rebs reads as possible uncertainty about future projects. • A source claim that creative director John Williams (originally hired for a canceled Battle Royale called Project Ekur) led prototyping of PvP multiplayer in Campaign Evolved’s hybrid engine. Rebs interprets this as preparation for a future classic Halo arena-style multiplayer project. • In a job listing for a narrative design director on a new campaign project, suggesting the next campaign is in early concept or pre-production. • Halo Studios employee Pierre Hintze changing his LinkedIn banner from a Halo Infinite Zeta Halo image to a Halo 3: ODST-related image (used in the Master Chief Collection). This could simply tie into Campaign Evolved’s new ODST content, or it might hint at future ODST focus—pure speculation. • If things go well, the next steps for Halo would be a Halo 2 remake, a multiplayer project (possibly further along than previously indicated), and a separate new campaign (still early). via: Rebs gaming youtube.com/watch?v=Vqau6v…

@Rikuto_Kuronaga @Pirat_Nation Is that so bad though? I know it's a video game, but there are those types of people in the world. Every character doesn't have to be some generic copy from another game. We all have our opinions though.

Halo: Combat Evolved Remake is facing major backlash after fans got their first look at a new “girlboss” female character. Fand are criticizing the character for disrespecting Master Chief in a scene, with some calling her a “girlboss” addition that feels unnecessary and out of place in Halo’s established story.
