🌍‘GRAVITY’🌏 What you see here is a print of my most popular painting, ‘Desensitised II’, displayed in a dialysis unit of an Aussie capital city hospital. I donated this painting to the ward after I had my second kidney transplant on Australia Day/One Day 2011, as what I thought was a “parting gift”. Lo and behold, I was back here in less than a decade, having to remind myself over & over again that many years had indeed actually passed by! I took this photo last Friday (27th Feb ’26), while I myself was having dialysis. I thought it was appropriate to take this photo while the Olympic rings were still on display. In my own mind, I am a type of Olympian: a life-long torture-endurance runner! The rings themselves represent the inhabited continents of the world, which reminded me of the universality of pain, that which I fight directly, & that which I fight against for others, to minimise & even eradicate completely. In my life, as well as the medical torture I’ve been destined to suffer, I have come face to face with evil itself (in the guise of humans, of course!). I will tell the story for you, but not before I’ve seen it defeated. Unlike many colleagues in the arts, & indeed many of my closest family members, I am not one to put my head in the sand & ignore the evils I see. Indeed, that freedom & luxury was never afforded to me, but, perhaps, that’s because God knew I would never run away from it, even if I could, & especially not if I knew I could make a difference. Thank you to those out there who genuinely support/ed me & those I am fighting for & WITH! And to anyone who’s just been along for the ride, thanks for the likes, but this isn’t about applause. It’s life or death, an unknowable, unfathomable suffering, & its possible prevention. If you’re not in, step back—no hard feelings. In this life, because I’ve used art to reach people, as well as a form of personal expression, I have naturally attracted a lot of company who share the similar interest of “creating”. In general, these people & their motives are absolutely nothing like me or mine. It’s very important for me to make that distinction, both to my supporters & to the artists that have gravitated around me over the years, those who seek only fame, money & superficial materialism at whatever expense, even if it’s selling out their kids for clout. Although I can speak all day about the fakery & the concentric circles of cults that exist on social [& all] media, the truth is, the worst & ugliest that you see exhibited on these platforms does peek out its head into real life, once in a while, &, for me & mine, I gotta Whac-A-Mole that sh*t back to where it came from. The last couple of things I wanted to say & chief impetus for this post are this: I have a few social apps that I’m obligated to post on & reply to, but I have been simply unable to check & be consistent with notifications thus far. But I promise I will be starting this week, after I edit & post a video to you while I’m at dialysis on Monday. I know I’ve said that before, but my schedule & obstacles are literally unheard of to the public, but you may understand once I can explain more. Right now, as I write this, I’m in a time of relative painlessness & I’m using it to write & post this out to you. Lastly, for now, I wanna recognise that many of my friends are having milestone birthdays this year. I was lucky to be able to make it to my cousin, Elia’s, birthday last month, but in that same month, I’ve already missed one of my best friend’s birthdays. Over my lifetime, I’ve missed soooo many weddings, parties, gatherings, holiday trips & MUCH MORE because I’ve had to be connected to machines &/or accountable to systems that took away my human autonomy. To all my friends turning 40: Happy Birthday! I want you to know that although this year I’m saying a big “N-O!” to a LOT of things & “Goodbye!” to a LOT of people, not one breath nor phoneme of those ‘nos & goodbyes’ are directed to you, not even the slightest. My friends are some of the greatest inspirations in this life, up there with my nieces & nephews! I went to my 10th & 20th year high school reunions & I really loved everyone there, for what each person taught me & the goodness each brought into my life. Thanks for reading this far, if you did. We are in a time of war, at least, a time of great confusion. Bullies have been empowered. Victims have been silenced. We see this pattern reflected on our screens daily. Confusion may abound in your own life when you see those around you whom you respected applaud the current dynamic that we now see play out in the world. I’m a soldier, so please, let me remind you that if you have the truth in your back pocket, you need not fear. Just use it! Use the TRUTH that you have. You don’t need to shout it; truth itself has its own gravity. -m.y.
