I want to know what a man is supposed to do when girls his age expect him to give them a $40,000 wedding. Is he supposed to charm and woo her for years and then, not give it to her?

No, you don't need a $40k car loan but that's what new cars cost now. A used one is fine, but even then they're $15k, not $500 like when "I was growing up"
And $2k/mo is not a flex for friends. Its what apartments in okay neighborhoods cost in my area. If you're willing to live in a bad neighborhood, you can knock off $500/mo, but that's about it and comes with some bad tradeoffs

I really don’t have much sympathy for Amazon workers. 5 years ago Amazon put out they considered employees like “lightbulbs” and they would cap pay after a few years of employment because the person would “burn out” and need to be replaced with a new hire. Evil shit.

5k, we were poor + lots of DIY and under 100 guests. Not extravagant in the slightest, but we loved each other and didn’t want to wait. Did just this, almost everything except catering was done by us, still came out to 5k$ for 50-80 atendees (I forgot the total count). Revenue was discounted because it was our church, bought a bunch of decorations but also built ALOT of them ourselves, family helped with some expenses, the most expensive single item was catering (even then it was fast food from chik-fil-a) ~400$

Wedding expense is absurd. If thats what they expect and can’t reasonably let it go, simply because you just cant afford it, then imagine how much of a problem the financials will be during the marriage. When some comfort items have to be skipped to make ends meet, it can create resentment if they are unreasonable. Doordashing(doesn’t feel like cooking), NEEDS starbucks every morning, I have to get (trendy gacha collectable) all my friends are, what do you mean i cant get a 300$ haircut dont you want me to feel pretty? Etc.
Sometimes you just need to let go because expectations are too high. Also sometimes readjusting those expectations can just lead to a breakdown in the relationship anyways, if the other is selfish enough.
Rest of it though absolutely agree. (except those fortunate enough to have the ability to do one of the “trades” and skip college, myself in example)
