Maybe a hot take? But this isn’t romantic to me. I want to be your priority. I want to be your number one. But I never want it at the cost of neglecting your obligations or other relationships with people. I would feel bad especially if it’s people you constantly cancel plans on. What this tells me instead is that you can’t follow through with commitments. And if I’m ever no longer a priority, that I can’t trust you to respect your commitments to me. I think it’s perfectly valid if, say, the partner has an emergency or is going through something and needs comfort. But cancelling plans just cuz your partner wants to hang out? If I were your friend, that would just tell me you don’t respect me as a friend or as a person.
