@jeannevb Having done it before is what stops me from doing it again. 😂😂

For those screenwriters who haven't tried indie filmmaking, what is stopping you? Not a rhetorical question. Curious what makes you either not want to or nervous to? #scriptchat

@jeannevb Always shit to mention in retrospect, like the global market putting an emphasis on easily translated action vs dialogue. And how other mediums like more immersive video games have joined memes in making movies no longer the dominant cultural artform.

Nate wrote the 1st draft like 13 years ago, got close, stepped away from the frustrations of Hollywood for a few years to write a graphic novel, prose, & help produce a nasty little flick we made called Cactus Jack—only to return with a vengeance & get his movie made!! CONGRATS!!

"Mark, don't forget who you're talking to. I know what you did in the army. You were an interrogator for special forces. I know what kind of man you are." Four redundant lines. Any one of those lines is more than enough. Always check your dialogue for redundant info. 2/2

Terrible bit of dialogue I just heard on a past, beloved, show I'm rewatching: I'm changing the name just cuz... But basically Character A is asking character B for help with something shady. Character B basically says: Help how? A's reply: 1/2

56 CANDLES On the eve of his 56th birthday, Ted Farmer's entire life—the software business he built from the ground up, his loving family, the beautiful house on Lake Michigan—are all threatened when a woman named Caroline claims he #metooed her after a party in high school.

@Montagsdayjob Yeah, crazy that dudes used to pitch 300+ innings back in the day. Then again, that was before the era of launch angles and weight rooms, when pitchers threw to contact, weren’t constantly slinging sliders and slurves and 100+ mph heaters for 5 innings. Bring back small ball! 😂

@ThemThorntons It’s a great point I think a lot of writers/ creators overlook. Myself included. Much easier to point out faults. But dissecting and intuiting what works - and WHY is much more valuable to improving our own craft. I think there’s usually a good balance of both on spot the pro

Since everyone’s doling out writing/script analyzation advice on here, I’ll join the fray. Came across this quote by George Miller in the preface of the book “Steven Spielberg: All the Films” as I was taking a brisket shit. Good stuff, and something everyone should internalize.

@JJthewriter When you’re trying to discern which page is by an amateur or pro you’re playing a game. Inherently the fellas and their guests are going to have to point out some warts to make that determmination. This is of course more about aspiring writers and how they engage with reads.

@JJthewriter I shouldn’t have mentioned the Spot the Pro fellas though. I fucked that all up. Not sure if I should blame the herb or the brisket. 😂

@JJthewriter Love ya, dude. For the record, any time I publicly offer “advice” like this, it’s most likely because I need to hear it or be reminded myself. It’s really self-affirmation masquerading as pedantry.

is conveying, and feel it as you would watching it. Study those moments that surprise you, titillate you, inspire you, scare the shit out of you, and move you to tears—and try to figure out how the writer or filmmaker managed to cast that spell, so you can in turn cast your own.

FOR THE RECORD, in my weed haze I may have made it seem like Spot the Pro gives bad advice. I meant to say it’s the watering hole! Only alluded to them because I have seen people sometimes focus on the wrong shit when COMMENTING on their vids. The show’s a great tool. Watch it.
