Bro, you've been losing your shit over movies and videogames for 2 decades and made a career out of it. You're in no position to talk down to us. I'm a Mediterranean man. I'm defending my people and my culture from the Hollywood vultures. It's a noble cause, so there is no L to be taken.
Joe Vargas@AngryJoeShow

Its truly funny watching @Nerdrotics @TheCriticalDri2 & all their buddies lose their shit over this film daily. Now disowning & dunking on their OWN FANS & SUBS to avoid being associated w/ taking an L. 🤣 Yall were embarassed by Nolan, time to move on to whining about the next "woke" film that'll actually fail for other reasons that elude you. That'll work better than throwing fans under the bus. Promise. 👍

The Hittites called Troy Wilusa. There was a King of Wilusa called Aleksandu. Another name for Paris of Troy was Alexander.

There have been lots of reviews of the new Odyssey movie, and as an ancient historian, people are probably expecting me to weigh in. I saw the film yesterday afternoon with my brother and sister (on the regular screen, not IMAX). But first let me just say that if you are expecting me to assess the historical accuracy of the movie, you will be disappointed. When it comes to modern adaptations of ancient literature, historical accuracy is not very relevant. After all, the original is not historically accurate and reflects elements from different time periods, and indeed, while there may be a historical kernel of truth to Odysseus' voyage (though I doubt it), there is no evidence of it ever happening. No, it is far more appropriate for me simply to assess how well the film adheres to the original text. 1/

@pureMetatron Mythos reflects a historic progression of a population and what significance this might have. People confuse ONE-PIECE with works like Odyssey because both contain metaphysical elements

The Odyssey IS historical. We know where the ruins of historical Troy (City of Wilusa) are, and we have known that for a very long time. Excavations at Troy 7A reveal a layers of compound ashes congruent with the war and its dating. The Homeric hills are the hill of Hisarlik in Anatolia. The Mycenean invasions are documented in Hittite imperial tablets. We even have the mention of the Mycenaean princess and the betrayal on tablet CTH74. And there is MUCH MORE to corroborate Homer's writings as real, NOT fictional. Lists of ships, armies, the league of the 22 cities of Western Anatolia and their interactions with the Mycenean world. It's REAL! To say that the Odyssey and the Iliad are not historical is such an ignorant statement at this point I don't even know why someone would choose to comment on it. The Iliad and the Odyssey are real historical events, embellished with myths, and squished together in an epic story telling format. If you add zombies and vampires to WW2 but keep all the names of the generals, the battles and the events as they happened, do the events stop being historical? Or does the addition of the supernatural make the whole WW2 a myth?

@nickchapsas I have an M1 Air, my first apple laptop. I was worried about its durability, but it has fallen many times, my kids have walked over it, and it’s still going strong. Once, my son spilled water on it and the screen died, but it recovered the next day.

2004 was in the middle of the hydration revolution. High school kids look a little older than today, but not very much. The super old faces of pre-1999 are gone. You can start to see the neotenous becoming normalized.

BACK TO THE FUTURE was released 41 years ago today. Five weeks into filming, Eric Stoltz was fired and replaced by Michael J. Fox. Nearly every scene had to be reshot, making it one of the most expensive casting changes in Hollywood history.

This is exactly why experienced software engineers are valuable and will be valuable. If you don’t know what good code looks like you will have no idea if what the models generate are any good Of course “AI reviews the code” etc etc… it doesn’t work as reliably. Via @mitchellh

A homeless Irish man sleeping rough asks the obvious question: why is he the one without a blanket or proper shelter while migrants are housed in tax-funded luxury guarded by security? The contrast could not be clearer or more insulting. Native citizens who built and sustained the country are left on the streets while new arrivals receive better accommodation than many working families could ever afford. This is not compassion. It is a deliberate inversion of priorities. Governments across Britain and Ireland have chosen to spend billions on hotels, converted buildings and high-end facilities for people who entered the country unlawfully or with questionable claims, while veterans, the elderly and ordinary citizens sleep in doorways. The same politicians who lecture about “diversity” and “inclusion” treat their own people as disposable. The policy is unsustainable and morally indefensible. Every pound spent on luxury migrant accommodation is a pound not available for British and Irish citizens in genuine need. Every bed given to someone with no right to be here is a bed denied to a native family or a homeless veteran. The public sees the disparity every day and understands exactly what it means. The only remedy is to stop the inflow immediately and begin large-scale removals. Failed asylum seekers, economic migrants and foreign nationals who commit crimes must be deported. Housing, welfare and public services must be reserved first for the people whose taxes fund them. Anything less guarantees more scenes like this one and deeper resentment from citizens who are being told their country no longer belongs to them. Put our people first. End the madness.
