SmogOff is out and about today measuring air pollution in the community as part of @GeoBrock0's @UniofExeterESI MSc placement with us. The sensor is just outside a nursery @jubileewharf on a busy road, and shows the area is above @WHO safe pollution limits ☹️

This is absolutely true- science 'journal/paper/article' mean nothing to most ppl and just sound like specialist magazines for scientist's opinions. This is why our sci comm needs to focus on access/transparency of publishing process, not "trust us we're smart" (current model)

increasingly convinced that a lot of the commentariat think scientific journals are just the places where scientists get to post their hot takes, as if they're just the opinion columns for people with PhDs.

@JamesPDuffy Believe it when we see it! Not an unusual thing to do in places like Finland, where there are district heating systems for servers to dump heat into, or excess snow ploughed to dump inside data centres to cool them. We're very behind on this stuff in the UK as always.
