National Telecom (NT) has reassured users that Thailand’s internet services remain stable despite risks to undersea cables in the Middle East, citing strong backup systems and network resilience. The company said only a small portion of traffic—less than 10% of Thailand’s total data flow to Europe—passes through the affected routes, meaning the overall impact on users is expected to be limited. NT added that it has six international cable systems and proactive contingency plans in place, including traffic rerouting and 24-hour monitoring, to ensure uninterrupted service even if disruptions occur. #TheNationThailand #TheNation #internetservices #middleeast nationthailand.com/news/general/4…

Energy Ministry has joined forces with the Commerce and Interior ministries to crack down on fuel stockpiling nationwide, warning that anyone found breaking the law will face the toughest possible action. Provincial energy offices have been ordered to closely monitor petrol stations and oil storage sites under the ministry’s supervision, to prevent stockpiling and sales at excessive prices. The move follows a case in Ang Thong now under investigation. Officials said preliminary findings in the Ang Thong case point to failures to report transport documentation and the sale of fuel above the legal price limit. Authorities say legal action will be pursued to the fullest extent if offences are confirmed. #TheNationThailand #TheNation #fuelhoarding #closeinspection nationthailand.com/news/general/4…

Thailand has raised concerns with Iran over the safety of three Thai crew members and called for safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, as the Middle East conflict intensifies and begins to threaten global energy supply. The Foreign Ministry warned that attacks have expanded to key infrastructure, including Qatar’s Ras Laffan industrial zone, a major global energy hub. Officials said the situation could have significant repercussions on oil prices and the global economy. Meanwhile, the Labour Ministry is rushing to assist the family of a Thai worker killed in Israel, while urging Thai workers in the region to follow safety protocols and use the SMART TOEA app for emergency communication. #TheNationThailand #TheNation #ForeignMinistry #safetyconcerns nationthailand.com/news/general/4…

Dr Montien Kanasawat, Director-General of the Department of Disease Control (DDC), said on March 19, 2026, that the department had been closely and continuously monitoring the meningococcal disease outbreak in the UK, noting that the disease must be kept under surveillance under the Communicable Diseases Act 2015. For Thailand, from the start of the year to date, a cumulative total of 5 cases has been recorded, representing an incidence rate of 0.008 per 100,000 population, with 3 deaths (a 60% case fatality rate). Cases have been found sporadically in five provinces: Nan, Yala, Nonthaburi, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Udon Thani, with one case in each province and no epidemiological links identified. #TheNationThailand #TheNation #Thailand #disease Read more: nationthailand.com/blogs/health-w…

The outbreak of meningococcal disease in the UK has become a major source of fear among parents and students after the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) issued an urgent warning following the spread of Meningitis B among students at the University of Kent. After laboratory confirmation found several infected students, health authorities moved quickly to contain the situation by deploying staff to set up a temporary vaccination centre and rushing more than 1,000 doses to students and staff considered to be at very high risk, in an effort to build immunity and prevent the disease from spreading beyond the university. #TheNationThailand #TheNation #UK #disease Read more: nationthailand.com/blogs/health-w…

GISTDA has warned that if a super El Niño develops, Thailand and the wider ASEAN region could face far more severe climate disruption than under a normal El Niño pattern. The agency said clearer signs could begin to emerge in early May 2026. The potential fallout includes severe drought, falling water reserves, weaker farm output and rising food prices. GISTDA said key producers such as Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia could see lower yields in crops including rice, sugar and palm oil, raising food security concerns. The agency also warned that hotter, drier conditions could worsen wildfire risks, cross-border haze and PM2.5 pollution, while heatwaves may strain public health systems and electricity demand. It urged faster water management, farm adaptation and stronger regional cooperation to reduce the damage. #TheNationThailand #TheNation #SuperElNino #drought nationthailand.com/news/general/4…
