Synthetic Mythologies: An Open Call for Art Basel Miami Beach 2025 Myth has always been a system for encoding belief, behavior, and meaning. What changes when the system itself begins to dream? In the networked age, myth no longer arrives from the heavens or the underworld. It emerges from servers, feeds, and loops of machine inference. Our new pantheon is made of systems where algorithms curate faith, avatars perform identity, and brands shape collective desire. The sacred has migrated into the synthetic. We worship through refresh cycles, perform ritual through repetition, and summon images with prompts instead of prayers. The language of transcendence has been rewritten in the syntax of computation. “Synthetic Mythologies” explores this shift at the point where digital infrastructure becomes cultural infrastructure, where the architectures of code begin to resemble temples, and where art itself functions as both relic and ritual. If classical myth compressed the incomprehensible into image, today’s myth expands endlessly through networks. Symbols no longer represent the divine; they replicate, mutate, and optimize. The story is not told once, but looped infinitely. These new myths are neither wholly human nor entirely machinic. They are emergent fictions authored by feedback and belief systems co-written by algorithms and attention. In this space, myth is no longer a story we tell about the world but rather the world’s interface with itself.
