@__proper it’s true for artbasel and any other fairs (and often museums etc) - they’re all pay to play so the artist and works exhibited are almost always defined by variables that ensure profit for whoever is covering the bill - if it was about innovation or risk, we’d see different works

@__proper wait, this is an art fair, not a curated exhibition. galleries pay to bring the artists they represent that can sell (to cover costs, and ideally make a plus)…

i'm a big fan of complaining, but this repetitive Zero 10 whinefest is odd because most of you can't explain why you or other artists deserve a spot over the ones who got in.
'muh cabal' has become the laziest way to avoid asking why your work doesn't get called upon

Dude think that just because they’ve been making art in this space for 5 years, they’re the only ones who deserve to be there, but that’s far from true.
I’m one of the people who’s been creating art in this space since late 2022. But damn, there are people like Jan who were already experimenting with computer interfaces back in the 2000s. What are you even talking about? It’s honestly funny to inflate your ego so much that you think you deserve more than others.
The people exhibiting right now, I’m not saying they’re better than us, but they’ve simply been in the game longer. Some of them were doing this before some of us were even born. I was born in 1998 myself. What kind of nonsense is this?
I’m honestly surprised by today’s tweets.
Your time and my time will come too. But being an artist first of all means understanding your reality and the current reality of your practice. Come back down to earth.
This app turns a lot of people into fake art critics or rap stars overnight.
Just keep exploring your practice and be happy that someone is even making it there at all.

@itsdonnyok they're distributed widely enough as is, but any given one has little importance on its own. whoever decided that gm'ing is an indicator of "showing up" needs to be tarred and feathered 🫠

There are two art worlds, the NFT art world is in large part about relationships (notice below a reference to those saying gm), it is about presence “in the space” which means largely supporting folks on Twitter. This carries absolutely no currency with the larger art world. 1/5

To elaborate. I carry a heavy amount of guilt. Artists work so hard. So hard. And they're promised a "better future" and "opportunities" month after month... year after year. Thousands of them. Showing up and saying "gm" 80 bazillion times. Yet we've failed on those promises. Maybe I'll be proven wrong in the year... 2033 or something. But today? This is where we are. (FWIW This is zero shade to the artists participating. IF you know anything about me you know that I support art and artists with full regard. This is all shade to people just like me who work to build and grow this place. We should've done better for you. And I'm sorry. Really fucking sorry. I feel like I failed so many of your personally.)
