Official copy of my new paper with @brett_gordon on the relationship between mastery and cognitive style is now online! journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/00… We find, with a notable exception, students reporting more deliberate cognitive styles also report a greater sense of personal control.

It is with great pleasure that I share MAXMINDS 2.0, a new Max Planck program to support scholars in danger of displacement by war or natural disasters, and who have limited access to resources and institutional support. If you know affected scholars, please share. maxminds.mpg.de

"That one toxic friend" might be aging you faster! Our new working paper shows that negative social ties are common and linked to faster epigenetic aging, higher inflammation, and poorer mental and physical health. Link: medrxiv.org/content/10.110…

What does it mean to be an ally? What happens if we transfer a concept from international to interpersonal affairs? A little essay on Spinoza and Lakoff & Johnson on metaphors to live together by.

Very good start of the new Metaror journal as the public peer reviews are as critical of @jamesheathers recent claim that 1 in 7 papers are fraud as I want my peer metascientists to be of such badly supported bold claims. Read the reviews here: metaror.org/kotahi/article…

@EikoFried That's excellent. Thank you! I'm excited to see what it took to produce a clean and highly effective network graph like that one.

@ThisIsSoli Thx, I've always shared my code & know Kristof cares deeply about open science too, as you can see in his current supplemental materials w many details! I'll reach out to him & ask to put the code online, too, thx for letting us know it's missing. osf.io/b4dvg/files/os…

1/3 I think this is a nice use case for cross-sectional network analysis today: to get a very basic idea of the nomological network of your target construct. Here we look at biopsychosocial risk & resilience for postpartum depression in 57,518 women. osf.io/preprints/psya…

3/3 First author Kristof Hoorelbeke; paper half a decade in the making, hope it's useful for folks working on PPD. Explanation of hierarchical network depiction above: left vs right column means direct vs only indirect relations with target outcome on the left.

New paper with @ThisIsSoli! We analyze citations of ASA journals, focusing on the proportion that come from within vs. outside of sociology. Overall, the interdisciplinary relevance of these journals is steadily, but unevenly, growing. link.springer.com/article/10.100…

1/N The “class ceiling” in elite US jobs is real. @SamFriedmanSoc & @Daniel_Laurison find that even when people from working-class backgrounds reach top professions, they still earn about $20,000 less per year than privileged-origin colleagues... 🧵

Statistics is one of my weaker subjects. Like, I can find measures of central tendency, I can make box and whisker plots, I can even do some hypothesis testing. But linear regression? That's where I draw the line.

Insta users who self-described as "addicted" only fit actual addiction criteria 2.4% of time, but new work from @aanixel finds that the self-label still reduced their well-being. Frames of social media use matter
