If it's quiet around me I don't need music but in noisy, public places music helps quiet down the chaos and provides a uniform background sound so it's easier to focus on reading. Although i mostly listen to slow songs or soft rock only and in a different language from my book 💀

I'm an American trauma surgeon. One year ago today I was volunteering at Nasser Medical Complex in Gaza when Israel fired a missile into the room of my 16-year-old patient, Ibrahim Barhoum. The missile killed him instantly. If it had hit the room 90 seconds later it would have killed me, too. Today the US and Israel are still blocking medical supplies from entering Gaza, and are repeating the assault on hospitals and healthcare workers across Lebanon. This is nothing but barbarism. It must be stopped.

@IlyasCigarette It takes some getting used to and I still have to rewind sometimes because I zone out 💀and it takes some time to get used to purposeful listening but mainly helps to find that activity and/or time that works for you

@IlyasCigarette That was fully my problem until last year. I would zone out so quickly and without even realising. What oomf advised me was listening when I go for walks and that worked for me. I will also listen while doing work that requires concentration like coloring

i don’t know if it’s just how my brain works, but does anyone else have the issue that they are completely unable to focus on audiobooks? my mind doesn’t wander when i’m reading normally but with audiobooks, regardless if i’m busy at the same time or not, my mind just cannot stop wandering. generally i’m fine if im reading along as i listen but i read faster than they talk so it’s kind of annoying
