To generations of Yankees fans, John Sterling's passing feels like an extremely personal loss.
Today, I'm comforted by the fact that we all knew exactly how special it was to have Sterling on our radios for so many years. He knew exactly how loved he was while he was with us.

Rest in Peace to one of the greats and a childhood icon of mine. The man was apart of every roadtrip to visit family in the NYC area. Truly a legend.

We are saddened by the passing of former New York Yankees broadcaster John Sterling. Through his unique style and passionate play-by-play calls, Sterling endeared himself to generations of players and fans as radio voice of the Yankees from 1989 to 2024. His signature punctuation of Yankees victories included calling the final out of five World Series championships. Sterling’s seven-decade broadcasting career also included stints with the Atlanta Braves and Hawks, the New York Nets and Islanders, and the Baltimore Bullets. He was 87 years old.

@knickerson82 In Alabama he was originally arrested for robbery. In Pennsylvania he attempted to kidnap a 7 year old boy but the boy ran and told his mother and was then arrested by authorities there. The Attnorney’s office did not explain how he escaped from either jail.

Robert Froberg is the man that has been identified as the individual who kidnapped and killed Morgan Violi. A strand of hair located in the Burgundy van that was identified as the vehicle that he used to kidnap and killed Violi, was found and DNA tested back to him.

From there he travelled down I-65 and stopped in Bowling Green where he kidnapped and murdered Violi before continuing down I-65 and dumping her body in White House, Tennessee. He was later arrested in Alabama again where he has been incarcerated since the late 90’s.

In 1996 he escaped from an Alabama jail and made his way to Pennsylvania where he was arrested and jailed again. He then escaped from that Pennsylvania jail and made his was to Dayton, Ohio where he stole the Burgundy van.
