#EU with choice – a thought experiment.
What would actually be so far-fetched about no longer organizing the #EU as an ideological compulsory association, but as an offer? 👉 With choice. 👉 With options. 👉 With responsibility.
A kind of membership model, if you will:
One tier for wokeness, redistribution, and collectivist care fantasies.
Another for individuality, personal responsibility, competition, and performance.
Both under the same roof, both with clear rules, clear costs, clear consequences. Those who want more regulation get it – and pay for it. Those who want more freedom get that too – and carry the responsibility themselves.
Perhaps a few countries would even say: We don’t want ideological full-service supervision, but a leaner, economically focused subgroup within the EU. Not a permanent re-education facility, but a community of purpose.
Or does the old principle still apply: in together, stuck together? Once inside, no deviation allowed – whether it fits or not?
The real question is this: Why does a union that preaches diversity fear differentiation so much? Why is unity constantly confused with enforced uniformity?
🫵 If the EU truly wants to be future-proof, it must tolerate that not everyone wants the same thing – and certainly not to be governed in the same way.
