@daniel_dsj2110 @SynesisIdeas @philopol81 @GChaton3k @iaingstewart @howserob And @antonydabila has written good summaries of Aron's contributions to the field of international relations (especially developing the strategy side).
Which is something quite relevant today.
English

@daniel_dsj2110 @SynesisIdeas @philopol81 @GChaton3k @iaingstewart On the French written side, I'll add that Sophie Marcotte Chenard's book is really good if you are interested in Aron as a philosopher of history (a nice update to Sylvie Mesure. @howserob is currently translating it!
Joël Mouric on Aron's conception of Europe.
English

@SynesisIdeas @philopol81 @daniel_dsj2110 Colquhoun's biography but that might be because I appreciate the temporal and contextual distance (his bio is old and he wasn't a French insider).
Otherwise, in French, the best intro to his thought is by @GChaton3k (easy to read, covers almost everything, up to date!)
English

@SynesisIdeas @philopol81 The best where to start is not published yet 🤫 @daniel_dsj2110
Otherwise it really depends on what is of interest to you because Aron's work is so wide that it is hard to resume and people have very different takes on him.
I have a lot of affection for Rob

@secantsegment Billions must read Rationalism in Politics

@TiltingatM3 But I think historians are just bound to clash about any kind of sweeping claim about history!
The debates in France about the emergence of feudalism never stopped, it is less straightforwardly political but no less violent.
English

@TiltingatM3 I don't think it really is a problem. We need different concepts to deal with different contexts and research questions and we end up using the same word for different concepts. Philosophers might bring some clarity to the debate (but recently they don't seem to).

@ThomasUnser @JBritishStudies Thanks, Thomas! Shoot me an email and I will send you a copy 😊

📢 My article, 'Conservative Crossings: Constructing Anglo-American Conservatism in C20th' has been accepted by @JBritishStudies! It shows how Conservative ideas & people moved between Britain & the US, contributing to the Cold War invention of 'American conservatism'.
