@curiouswavefn Have you read "When We Cease to Understand the World" by Labatut? Interesting take on Heisenberg, Schopenhauer, Bohr.

Niels Bohr and his protege Werner Heisenberg (the first photo is from a skiing trip). Heisenberg developed his famous uncertainty principle while working with Bohr. The two shared a paternal bond, one that was shattered by Heisenberg’s involvement with the Nazi atomic program.

@oregon_yr We'll find out eventually what the truth is about this sad death. For now, only one thing is clear: OR Young Rs are seeking to make political points out of a family's grief. Shame. acc.org/latest-in-card…

@USATRUMPMAN1 Real, actual science, not politics, at play here, folks. This doc falsely claimed masks cause CO2 poisoning, refused to follow state medical guidelines, and put his patients in danger. Yeah, he should have his license yanked. newsweek.com/oregon-doctor-…

They think it’s ok to make you buy a product health insurance They think it’s ok to make you wear attire of their choosing They now think it’s ok to make you take medication What do you think they’ll decide to make you do next?

@duckbyface @beinlibertarian I don’t think lockdown is the answer either. I live in Idaho and work in Oregon. Oregon locked down and had mask mandates. Their Covid numbers weren’t any better than Idaho that was open. 🤷🏻‍♀️

My 12-year-old had appendicitis. The ER was overwhelmed with unvaccinated Covid patients and we had to wait 6+ hours. While waiting, his appendix ruptured and had to spend 5 days in hospital; just got hmo bill of $5000. So yeah, your decision to not vaccinate does affect others.

@maiasz @GeopoliticalBum @james_e_baldwin No, what I'm saying is that no nation has eradicated addiction (as far as I know). "Success" is a matter of degree. Nor am I a fan of Chinese authoritarianism. But after WWII they made enormous strides in a short time dealing with rampant addiction. There are no easy answers.

no, longer sentences (or calling dealing fentanyl homicide & longer sentences) don't work. we tried that & wound up w/mass incarceration and MORE DANGEROUS DRUGS. did you guys even *watch* the Wire? illicitly manufactured fentanyl is a result of the crackdown on medical opioids

@james_e_baldwin @maiasz Sounds a bit like the US between 1865 and 1910, when morphine, syringes, and opium were available OTC and addiction was managed by physicians. The scale of addiction was enormous, but it was all very genteel.

@Thomas_Hager @maiasz The only major country that has arguably "succeeded" in containing opioid addiction is Britain between 1920 and 1970, and it did it by making heroin and morphine legally available to addicts with few restrictions. When that was stopped we had a heroin epidemic within a decade

@JoeMDuncan @NikkiFried More #FearPorn. FL is in the middle of states Covid death rates. NY, MA, and NJ, where Orwellian lockdowns were in place, lead the pack. So, Joe, what would you do? Lockdowns? Mask mandates outside? Those are in place in Oregon, a high vax state. OR's hospitalizations mirror FL's

@nickjam96618574 No vaccine 100% effective. “Both hospitalizations and deaths are extremely small in terms of percentage of those vaccinated,” Chunhuei Chi, director of the Center for Global Health at Oregon State University. “That’s why we call the current surge a pandemic of the unvaccinated.”

Lol well done Youtube and Apple. My sons were asking where I’m going tomorrow morning after church and I told them dove hunting. They asked what that was so I searched it on the Apple TV via the youtube app to show them. The app would let me search “dove hunting” 🙄

@jayus1418 @AnyMajor_Dude @Oregonian Simply not true. Why does this misinformation keep getting repeated? Look at case rates in the last 7 days -- OR's not doing great, but a number of other states have much bigger surges. And OR has a lower case rate in general than many other states. #cases_casesper100klast7days" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tra…

@AnyMajor_Dude @Oregonian I’m not sure how you believe that when COVID cases have skyrocketed since vaccination rates have gone up, and the most vaccinated areas, like Oregon, are seeing the highest surges of COVID cases.
