Bill Cassidy in concession speech: "Let me just set the record straight: Our country is not about one individual. It is about the welfare of all Americans and it is about our Constitution. And it is the welfare of my people and my state and my country and my Constitution to which I am loyal. And if someone doesn’t understand that and attempts to control others through using the levers of power, they’re about serving themselves. They’re not about serving us. And that person is not qualified to be a leader." #LASEN

Reform UK told the BBC that he paid in cash for his £1.4m house in Surrey with his “I’m a Celebrity” fee from ITV and not with the £5m gift from crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne - which Farage says was to provide him with security (physical, not financial). But the ITV “Celeb” fee was £1.5m, which would be £825,000 after tax, for a top-rate taxpayer like Farage. That’s £575,000 less than the price of the house. And even if the fee was paid into his “Thorn in the side” media company rather than directly to him, it would still be taxable, one way or another

@BorisJohnson @danwootton Boris backs Starmer. He correct calling out the PM being removed by ambitious MPs just desperate to get top job. Don't love Starmer but glad he speaking out. Never will forgive Tories for giving us Truss and Rishi. We voted for Boris. Interested in your thoughts?

If these Left-wing clowns do defenestrate Starmer, it'll be a completely undemocratic fraud on voters. And the nation will clamour for an early election… mol.im/a/15821459

🚨 BREAKING: Andy Burnham confirms he will seek to run for Parliament in Makerfield I can confirm that I will be requesting the permission of the NEC to stand in the Makerfield by-election. I grew up in this area and have lived here for 25 years. I care deeply about it and its people. I know they have been let down by national politics. Ten years ago, I decided to leave Westminster. Why? Because, after 16 years, I came to the conclusion that our national political system does not work for areas like ours. I learnt this fighting its failure to invest in the Wigan borough, for justice for the Hillsborough families and against its treatment of Greater Manchester during the pandemic. Over the last decade, I have been challenging this from the outside and building a new and better way of doing politics. We have built Greater Manchester into the fastest-growing city-region in the country and put buses back under public control, introducing a £2 fare cap to help people with cost-of-living pressures. However, there is only so much that can be done from Greater Manchester. Much bigger change is needed at a national level if everyday life is to be made more affordable again. This is why I now seek people’s support to return to Parliament: to bring the change we have brought to Greater Manchester to the whole of the UK and make politics work properly for people. People are struggling and they need the Labour Government to succeed. It has already made changes to make life better in its first two years and, after this week, we owe it to people to come back together as a Labour movement, giving the Prime Minister and the Government the space and stability they need as the by-election takes place. I want to recognise the difficult decision taken by Josh Simons and the sacrifice he and his family are making. I have worked closely with him as Mayor on issues like flooding and illegal waste dumping and have seen first-hand how effective he has been. He has put the communities of Makerfield first, made a real difference for them and should take great pride in that. Finally, I do not take a single vote for granted and will work hard to regain the trust of people in Makerfield, many of whom have long supported our party but lost faith in recent times. We will change Labour for the better and make it a party you can believe in again.

If they decide to refer to the Committee, and the Committee out of sheer spite push for the harshest punishment, 10 days suspension. And then push for recall. And get 10% of voters in the constituency to call for a by election, I have no doubt the people of Clacton will re-elect Farage So a waste or time, resources and money. Nigel will profess he was gifted personal security before choosing to stand as an MP. Security he needs as the establishment recklessly villainise him. The establishment will look prickly and punitive, and make Farage appear a martyr to his supporters If he played the messaging right, it could potentially even concretise his support.

Just out of Cabinet and then the Middle East Response Committee. The impact of the conflict in Iran will be felt here at home at a time when we know the cost of living has been difficult for many. This Labour government is working hard to protect families and businesses from the economic shocks as much as we can. Serious times call for serious leadership, which is exactly what the Prime Minister is providing.
