George Carlin on Fanatics: There’s a reason. There’s a reason for this, there’s a reason prices continue to rise and QC sucks, and it’s the same reason that it will never, ever, ever be fixed. It’s never gonna get any better. Don’t look for it. Be happy with what you get.

I think for some of us, aside from the battle if, is PSA's random opinion on one day from 1 low paid worker even worth attention, ASSUMING it is.....to many, its just the sheer unimportance of a psa 10 88 Topps anything that creates some of this discussion... like honestly, great if you collect 10s, but many see that as totally nonsensical when it comes to crazily overpriced 80s base cards. Its like saying you have a psa 10 grain of beach sand, so what? Everyone has their opinion. I m sure people are out there who find my collecting of any Clemens cards to be equally as unimpressive, and they're just as right. But I agree, given the lack of PSAs consistency if what is a 9 vs what is a 10.... the smart econmics is to buy a 10 vs try to sub and get a 10 nowadays.butvthats not a function of rarity or card value... its a function of PSA logistics and sheer TIME to sort through the bajillions of 88 Topps card that still exist raw.

Why would someone pay $500 for a PSA 10 '88 Topps Ryan? i wouldnt but someone that collects 10s would Think about what it takes to get a 10 Find subable copy Buy raw now? are you mad? Rip wax/cello/rack/vending/sets? Good Luck So think about all it would take to get one “cheaper”

@ThoseBackPages @StevenLaForge12 You’re paying for another man’s opinion of your card. I do think they have value for authentication purposes though. I.E. vintage or Jordan rookies.

@StevenLaForge12 when it comes to base cards that are not serial numbered, slabs are a great way to differenciate them from the sea of available ones out there.

@ThoseBackPages I think it’s because the PSA 10 craze is something relatively new. Most (keyword) collectors back in the day didn’t want PSA 10 base cards. There was never a backlog in grading. This is all relatively new, especially the desire for PSA 10’s of mass produced base cards

@ThoseBackPages I tried completing my Will Clark PSA 10 collection the cheap way. I spent about a year and sent in about 30 cards that looked perfect. I got one 10 on about card I could have bought the PSA 10 for $60. After that I just buy the 10’s at whatever the market says they’re worth.

So if I buy a card on eBay that requires authentication, then have it submitted for psa grading through eBay at checkout, then have it vaulted at psa, I may see it in 12-14 months if I want to minimize the withdraw fee psa charges. At my age, that’s just not happening.

@GrimGlassCo correct but historically it is an indicator of who will be in Update. When they put the RC Logo on it that means Update will have the logo. the "Call Up" badge means no MLB cards until the following year

Things to take into consideration when you want to own a graded card: Do you own a raw copy? How much is it to self sub? Do you want to wait months? Are you ok with the grader having a bad day? or Buy it already slabbed Easy choice for me! ha
