@HukAleksandra Because the 'kids' haven't paid tax on it and it's irrelevant that the parents did. You pay tax on your income and then pay tax (VAT) when you buy products. The same principle - just because tax has been paid on some money once doesn't mean it is exempt from being taxed again.

Explain it to me like I’m 5. Why should kids have to pay taxes on money their parents already paid taxes on?

@ciarancannon @llygad_y_nos @ProfBrianCox The displays further north then to much more impressive, certainly to the naked eye. But yes camera phone tech has improved significantly, it wasn't long ago that it would have been impossible to capture the aurora on a phone.

@llygad_y_nos @ProfBrianCox And yes, those things are wonderful, but why no longer the need to fly to Iceland? We’ve had numerous sightings across Ireland this year. Are those solar storms becoming more powerful?

@ThreeRockBooks @diarmu1d @Caolanmcaree Perhaps they’ve ‘earned’ it in other ways over years. It’s a common situation in Ireland that children help support elderly parents to stay at home. Over the years they may contribute money, or time, or do maintenance, whatever. Not something easily quantified for tax purposes

Why does inheritance tax exist? People earned this money and paid tax on it already when they were alive, why should their kids who can't even afford a front door, never mind a house, pay tax on top of this again?! #rtept

@diarmu1d @Caolanmcaree It’s not ‘unearned’! People worked hard for that money, paid tax on it and should be allowed to pass it to who ever they wish. It is unfair that tax avoidance by the hugely wealthy should be used as an excuse to create tax headache for people of modest means

@Caolanmcaree The person who is passing the inheritance earned the money and was taxed on it. The person receiving it hasn't. It's not double taxation.

@Ballykilcavan @deannullec @KinnegarBrewing @WesternHerd My broader point is that the generally speaking the ingredients are far from local or distinctive. Similarly with water, invariably water will be treated with chemicals to fit the requirements of the style of beer.

@ThreeRockBooks @deannullec @KinnegarBrewing @WesternHerd The darker specialty malts are a problem. I haven't yet found anyone who has a kiln that will produce chocolate malt. The new Teagasc micromalting facility in Oakpark an produce small batches of amber, crystal and Munich.

@Ballykilcavan @deannullec @KinnegarBrewing @WesternHerd Yes I thinking of you when I mentioned exceptions. Is it correct to say that there arespeciality no Irish specialty malts? Crystal, amber chocolate, roast, Munich, Vienna etc?

@ThreeRockBooks @deannullec @KinnegarBrewing @WesternHerd Hops are almost all imported. Even growing our own, we import most of ours. Would hope that most breweries are buying Irish grain. Irish malting barley is among if not the outright best in the world.
