@rachallison1 @gmk_julie Oh my goodness, thank you. I thought it was only me. The comparisons were—alarming. In addition to the Epstein analogy: child molester, domestic abuser, rapist, AIDS patient (??), cannibalistic serial killer. A real panic around metaphor.

@gmk_julie LITERALLY the “logic” is wild. I saw someone use epstein as an example. “oh so you would make your daughter date epstein if he said sorry?” deranged mindsets

If you want to know how detached from reality a lot of folks on here are, just consider that a man repeating his wife's very public testimony of promiscuity and redemption in Christ has resulted in a clamorous "Oh yah? So you want to force all us virgin men to marry prostitutes and your own daughter to marry a deranged murderous rapist!"

@Oofwav3 @worke118804 @kenzietuff Conscientious objectors even have a dedicated portion of the ceremony if the violation is too much to countenance. Not an unreasonable or uncommon position, as the last two days of discussion have borne out. And so, yes: fair. Done. Take care. Pax. (4)

@Oofwav3 @worke118804 @kenzietuff Further: I’ll stipulate that it is very generous to permit a marriage between a whore & a (chaste) man. And then only on the condition of full disclosure by the whore before the union can be “dignified” by the State. Again: sure, why not. (3)

One of the several insane things about the discourse every time it’s about a woman repenting from promiscuous ways and people giving their opinions is that women will react to negative opinions about her by saying “the saints did x”- immediately comparing themselves to saints.

April is almost here—and we’re marking 30 years of National Poetry Month. Since 1996, this celebration has grown into the largest literary event in the world. Poetry belongs to all of us. Let's celebrate together: bit.ly/4sOvlXi

Not familiar with the acronyms SM or SD, I’m afraid. Nor am I aware of any campaign compelling chaste men to marry promiscuous women. If that is happening, the anger is justifiable. The only pressure I’ve ever seen runs in the opposite direction—the old-fashioned you-broke-it-you-bought-it logic of shotgun weddings, now largely out of fashion. Sex and marriage are not separable. A man who takes a woman to bed makes her his wife, simple as. Just as a whore has many husbands, so a whoremonger has many wives. (Christ, if anything, sets the higher standard for men—a simple look suffices.) Adulterers all. A real mess.

@ThreshingFlora @kenzietuff It's because they're being called out for the social grift that it is. Men are shamed for seeking quality women in church, yet "reformed" SMs looking for the perfect quality SD is supposed to be treated as fine/normal. It's female aggression, hence the comparison. Simple as.

Aha. Knew it. Left-coded. SINISTER: when a theological anthropology constructs a moral framework in which “slattern” and “serial killer” are treated as equivalent forces. Cf. the struggle of figures of speech to survive.

My Tuesday hot take: the Left cannot define a woman; the Right entertains strange, sinister thoughts about them. I’m going to stop reading comments about that one married couple—dark and dispiriting. Delmira Agustini (Poetics of Eros) and José Lezama Lima (Paradiso) have arrived. I’ll sit with them instead.

There's an asymmetry between men who commit physical and sexual violence against women, and women who give their bodies over to whoredom. Why is the male equivalent always a man of violence who is removed from society for the common good? Should whores likewise be removed and sent to a nunnery? Serious question. That was not uncommon in history.

@kenzietuff You ever notice how these women don’t have the same forgiving, holding hands with Jesus and sing songs around the campfire attitude for the men who were rapist, women beaters, Epstein islanders ect, this whole don’t judge, the past is the past is only extended to women.

The premise and the conclusion address different men. Men who take liberties with another man’s wife are not the men who caution a fool, “don’t do that.” Those men? Champions. Brothers in arms. There is no civilized order without men restraining men. And yes—before it’s asked—men are to restrain women, and the men who would dishonor them. It really isn’t complicated.

“Consequences to bad behavior”—that’s been cited repeatedly, but without any clear practical application. So far the comparisons offered have been to child rapists, AIDS patients, and serial killer cannibals—which suggests a certain panic around metaphor. Setting aside the correlation between promiscuity and sexual abuse, what consequences, exactly, are being proposed for a penitent whore? Exile? Sterilization? Corporal punishment? I’m not being glib. I’m genuinely at a loss as to what, concretely, people think should be done with and/or to women who have confessed their sins and found forgiveness in Christ—this side of glory.

@ThreshingFlora @Oofwav3 @kenzietuff Its about consequences to bad behavior NOT salvation. An adulterer can cheat on his wife then choose toaccept Christ into his heart. BUT that does not mean the his wife is FORCED to get back with him and act like it never happened, and pretend he could never cheat again.
