Inclusion isn’t what’s written in a policy. It’s what children experience every day. Whether they feel they belong. Whether they know they matter. What difference does a whole school approach to wellbeing, behaviour and inclusion make in schools? Our new independent evaluation with ImpactEd highlights some clear patterns. Schools using Thrive are seeing: 27% lower exclusion rates than the national average Primary exclusions down 52%, secondary down 35% Improved wellbeing for pupils with SEND, despite national trends Up to 38% lower rates of severe absence in highly engaged schools Stronger staff wellbeing, morale and confidence But the numbers only tell part of the story. Schools also report calmer learning environments, more consistent responses to behaviour and children who feel safe and ready to learn. These results show what is possible with early support, strong relationships, and a deep understanding of social, emotional and mental health. We asked 1,000+ educators about inclusion. Here's what we learned. Schools are clear on what’s expected. But capacity is stretched too thin to deliver it consistently, alongside everything else schools are managing. - 85% say expectations are clear - Only 23% have enough time and staffing - 69% report strain on staff wellbeing When capacity is in place, outcomes look very different. Readiness for joined-up delivery more than doubles (41% to 92%). This isn’t a question of commitment. What’s missing is the capacity to do it well. We need to build the capacity that makes inclusion possible. Due to government funding changes and the withdrawal of the Operations Manager standard, we’ve had to confirm that our Thrive Leadership Apprenticeships will be ending. The May cohort is the final opportunity to join this funded leadership route, and we won’t be running these programmes again. We’re hosting a short virtual open day this Thursday 26 March, to give a clear overview of the two pathways, what the experience looks like in practice, how it fits alongside your role, and what you can expect to gain. These programmes combine nationally recognised Level 5 leadership training with Thrive Practitioner training, supporting educators to lead people, manage projects effectively, and build Thrive’s SEMH expertise to better understand and support children and young people. Did you have a role model growing up who felt relatable? Someone who looked like you, shared your background, or showed you what was possible? When children see people like them achieving and contributing, their sense of possibility expands. Our next Inclusive Principle, Celebrating Identity, Story and Place, asks us to think differently. Children’s identities, cultures and communities are not barriers to overcome. They are strengths to recognise and celebrate. So what does that look like in practice? It means creating spaces where pupils see their cultures and communities reflected in the curriculum. It means having open conversations about families, neighbourhoods and backgrounds. It means highlighting role models and success stories from the communities around us. Because when children feel proud of who they are and where they come from, they are more likely to feel they belong. Leadership and management apprenticeship defunding has now been confirmed following the government’s review. Two Thrive Apprenticeship pathways expected to be affected are: • Thrive Wellbeing Leadership Apprenticeship (Level 5) • Thrive Advanced Practitioner Leadership Apprenticeship Both programmes combine practical SEMH expertise with a nationally recognised Level 5 Operations Manager qualification, helping schools strengthen leadership while embedding a whole-school approach to wellbeing. £9,000 of funded training is currently available. Applications are open for our May 2026 intake, and demand is expected to increase following these announcements.
