What is @hydromarkets? A PoL auction platform for $ATOM & $NTRN stakers to vote on liquidity bids, and earn rewards from successful deployments. And soon™️, Inflow: managed vaults for $BTC, $USDC, & $ATOM. Check out the deep dive 👇

Hey Mag, I've answered the comment left by this mysterious new cosmoslabs account. It would be good to know your own personal opinion on what we should do next. In the meantime, we do not wish to proceed with the proposal and we'll ask people to vote no or abstain on the prop forum.cosmos.network/t/deploy-commu…

Official position of Cosmos Labs (not me personally) on Hydro proposal. It should be noted - Cosmos Labs does not control governance, and is an independent entity that acts as a concerned member of the community regarding Cosmos, ATOM, and the Hub. forum.cosmos.network/t/deploy-commu…

Hydro
Hydro@hydromarkets·
The Hydro team just posted a proposal to deposit 7M ATOM from the community pool into Hydro’s ATOM Inflow vault, where it would be deployed into market-neutral, low-risk DeFi strategies to generate yield. Importantly, none of the ATOM provided by this proposal would be spent, only the yield that is generated from it. The yield would fund development of a zero-fee, Hub-native ATOM LST, its integration with Hydro’s ATOM Inflow vault, and the migration of Hydro’s contracts to the Hub. We know this is a big request and a big chunk of the community pool, but the funds can still be used for other initiatives. Hydro will deploy them into DeFi strategies so that they’re actively generating yield rather than sitting idle, but Hub governance keeps the ability to clawback the funds programmatically (without having to rely on the goodwill of the Hydro team or any individual signer) and assign them to a different purpose if it wishes to do so. Custody of the funds will be transferred over to the Atom-Aligned Apps (AAA) organization once it’s formed. Hydro was purpose-built to act as a vehicle to manage the community pool capital, and over the past year, we’ve deployed 4.3M ATOM across 78 different deployments into nearly every Cosmos DeFi protocol. We’ve been working on this proposal for the past 4 months and processed an enormous amount of feedback from (literally) hundreds of people. A big thank you to everyone who engaged with us on the forum, on Telegram, on Slack, in phone conversations and elsewhere, and anyone who will help us bring active DeFi activity on the Hub for the first time 🤞

1/ Hydro's 7M ATOM Proposal 🔥 A groundbreaking proposal just dropped that could transform how the @cosmos Hub generates value. @hydromarkets wants to put 7M $ATOM from the community pool to work in DeFi and build a zero-fee institutional LST. A thread 🧵 👇

New $ATOM tokenomics proposal from @hydromarkets worth paying attention to. 👇 The problem today: $ATOM inflation -> stakers -> that's it. Circular. No external value capture. What Hydro is proposing: $ATOM inflation -> deployed into DeFi -> earns real yield -> buyback/burn $ATOM Plus: automatic sell when $ATOM outperforms, buy back when it underperforms. Rules-based, not vibes. Why it's different: Staking rewards become productive capital. Yield comes from actual market activity, not just more inflation. The goal: $ATOM as a yield engine that benefits from Cosmos SDK adoption - not just a staking token. Whether this is the answer or not - it's the right conversation to be having. h/t @Thyborg_ Source: forum.cosmos.network/t/request-for-… 🫡

@bittybitbit86 USDC should have been issued on the Hub and we should have deprioritize ICS to make it happen, but I don't think that would have solved all of our problems without a unified Hub & ICF leadership

Atom should have been the ibc router for cosmos, ibc should have belonged to the hub. Instead, the Hub gave everything away, letting various teams drain its intellectual property without building sustainable value. Only after securing such a Router foundation should a liquidity mechanisms have been built out. Now, the Hub is effectively dead, and IBC itself sees little real use. A prime example is Noble. Rather than leveraging the Hub, supporting stakers through fees, and uniting the ecosystem, the same familiar group took it over for personal gain. noble is now also effectively dead. along with P2P storms, Noble was the straw that broke the camels back for me. It was absolutely sickening watching Jack leverage noble for his own Buisness. Jack’s Buisness is also dead now. Atom stakers got nothing but empty promises and textbook socialist trash.

There’s a version of reality somewhere where Hype, Plasma, and Bera Chain all thrive on the Hub, and Cosmos trades at $100. But that’s not this world’s version. Too many wrong turns, too much time chasing the wrong ideas. Trust eroded until even shared security became a red flag. A cartel drained the life and rewards from the very communities that made a network possible. For me, though, one of the biggest failures was much simpler: no one stopped to ask, what does the consumer actually want? Everything was built top-down, from ego and engineering. Apart from Osmosis I saw too little curiosity about actual product and too much pride in big words and technical showmanship. Figure out what the consumer wants and work back from there, otherwise you risk wasting time building useless infrastructure.

@RoboMcGobo that sounds great. e.g arc is going to be permissionless and will be looking to bring in third-party developers. if CL can help them tap into a pool of builders, I think it's a big value-add

For some of them sure. This is also where I think Cosmos builders will find strong PMF. One thing we're currently thinking through is developer activations on these chains. Would be a great way to add an additional service we can provide to enterprise clients while also lifting existing builders up.

This is, unfortunately, the kind of short-sighted thinking that got Cosmos to where it is in the first place. Any ecosystem relying purely on defi, memes, and nfts to propel it to success will lose in the long term, sorry. These usecases will consolidate onto 1-2 winners to survive, and their upside will be limited to the capital pool of a relatively small group of users and ever-shrinking number of VCs and liquid funds (tbf, i count myself in this group of users and always will). True exponential growth from here will accrue to those ecosystems that can capitalize on the trillions of dollars in institutional and enterprise capital coming on chain as we speak. These enterprises need sovereign infrastructure. L2s and gen-purpose L1s are unfit for their usecases. Care to venture a guess as to which sovereign infrastructure provider is lightyears ahead of the others in performance and customizability? It would be great to keep you and everyone else in Cosmos, but if you stay a perspective shift is needed. You can either fade into irrelevance over the next decade with the legacy crypto systems, or ride the wave of this new paradigm into crypto's future. Your choice. Blog with my full thoughts on this topic coming soon 🫡

After nearly 5 years, I’m stepping away from Stargaze. Stargaze was one of the very first Cosmos chains -- pioneering NFTs + CosmWasm, and home to collections like Bad Kids, Mad Scientists, and Celestine Sloths. At its peak, STARS reached a $1B market cap and delivered one of crypto’s largest airdrops.

HYDRO is the most value-driven product for $ATOM! Locking 10%+ supply of $Atom, expanding reach across ecosystems, reducing circulation, and boosting demand. And the best part? With HYDRO, you earn more passive income.

DeFi users spend way too much time looking for yield, rebalancing across venues as the rates shift, bridging assets, wrapping derivatives etc. We're building a solution that will let them deposit and get the highest low-risk returns available on the market at any given time.

@brane_trix @0xMagmar @Wickex2 you can just change the framing. ATOM is commodity and the ICL’s a for-profit shop that happens to want to buy & burn a ton of it

@un_United_SoA @PumpViolet @cosmos sure, you can call most forms of capital allocation (market-making, hedge funds etc.) yield optimization but for most people, yield optimizers are just simple reward compounders, which isn't it

.@Thyborg_ proposed what @cosmos never had: A product. One that captures yield, auto-routes liquidity, connects fiat, and burns supply. Built on the Hub. No excuses. Just execution.
