I get that for a lot of yall, this is the first major change you have witnessed in the genre. Mavo music isn’t in anyway an inditement of the entire music industry. He didn’t destroy anything. Artists like Mavo have always existed; DJ Zeez, Durella is some way; some people at the time even felt the same way about Terry G. So yall relax it’s not the end of the world. We have entered a defining decade for the Afrobeats genre ‘25-‘35. A lot of artists are going to be fazed out. Some from natural career progression, others from stale art and others from “one hit wonders”.
DAYGENIUS☀️@Daygenius

I can boldly say that MAVO singlehandedly destroyed the music industry. I miss the days when Bnxn, Victony and Fireboy pushed the pen of artists… now everyone is creating weird new words that don’t mean shit. We are in the age of AFRO-DUMBO 😩

“Best Part ft Magixx” was a pleasant surprise on this album by Kuami Eugene. The best track by far. Although the the overall project doesn’t match the brilliance of this song, there are a few songs on there that are definitely worth the listen.

Kidd Carder x Mavo 👏🏽👏🏽I like Impressive record. A special salute to Shallythechampion on the production. It’s like watching a master chef at work. A+ for knowing when little is more and simple is enough. Really impressive work by everyone involved

Hey Kaesa, 1st; I do like the record. Really well produced and your vocals are impressive. 2. For me, the record started at 2:30. You going on without the full instrumentals allowed me to really experience all you were offering. Please release the “acoustic”-ish version of this soon. Those last 53 seconds were fantastic. Your main and background vocals sounded rich and intentional. 3. Finally, on future records, you don’t want to have us wait till the end to “feel and hear” you. Your songwriting will be key as well. Start to think about the kinda of artist you want to be and let your songs reflect that. You have a great voice and i look forward to whatever you have coming out next.

I have been thinking about Ayra Starr lately and going thru her music. A few things: 1. If one song could encompass who Ayra is as well as give us a glimpse of her potential its “Rhythm and Blues”. Somehow because it doesn’t get some kid in Ohio to dance, we never got a see its true potential. 2. Johnny Drille’s work as the engineer on this record is absolutely masterful because it gives her the latitude to express herself while letting the audience experience all she had to give. 3. Ayra is special in a way only she can be but somehow, someone, somewhere with influence over her music believes that “Specialty” isn’t good enough. That it’s been exhausted, it’s reached its ceiling, it can’t stand the test of time. I can tell you, they have never been more wrong. Now more than ever is the time to double down on it. Be Ayra! 4. Because of no. 3, her next album feels like a pivotal point in her career in a way it shouldn’t be. It’s obvious her team knows it too and a lot is being done but a thousand steps in the wrong direction doesn’t get you any closer to your destination.

At a Pan-African gathering in African Institute In Indigenous Knowledge Systems, University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, I asked a question that wouldn’t let us rest: Do we write in our own languages and risk being unheard, or in English and risk losing ourselves? Somewhere between voice and visibility, Africa is still negotiating its tongue. This conversation is far from over. #waasere

@FabrizioRomano It's OK, we have heard. They should also award them the Superbowl, Wimbledon and US Open too. Then the Moroccan king should undress Patrice Motsepe and make love to him on live TV while they're at it. We literally don't care.
