@uimontyo Tenchi Muyo! was responsible for a lot of people in the west being introduced to Japanese anime. Here in Europe it also aired on the Toonami timeslot and it was the first time many of us had ever seen Japanese animation. And then that brought in Dragon Ball Z and so on!

私が高校生の頃、カートゥーン ネットワークで『天地無用！』が放送されていましたが、当時の男子なら誰もが間違いなく見ていました（もちろん、アメリカのケーブルテレビで放送するために、内容には編集が加えられていましたが）。 リョウコの声を担当したのはペトレア・バーチャードでしたが、おそらく彼女が白髪だったためでしょう、英語版ではより低い声が当てられ、年配の女性として描かれていました。 日本のオリジナル版におけるキャラクター像とは異なるかもしれませんが、英語版の涼子はずっとこのような描かれ方をしてきました。 年上の女性が10代の少年を狙う（アメリカではこうした女性を「クーガー」と呼びます）という側面こそが、彼女の……いわば「魅力」の一部なのです。
