@skpywatts58832 She suggested it and it’s very apparent that her intention all along was to use the shared $ as she wished. Huge red flag.

Woman: "Am I the asshole for moving my paycheck into a separate account after my partner kept 'accidentally' overdrawing our joint account?"
Woman: "I'm 34 and my girlfriend is 31. We've lived together for a little over a year. We agreed to use a joint account only for shared expenses like rent, utilities, groceries, and pet supplies. We each deposited a set amount every payday, and the rest stayed in our personal accounts.
At first, it worked well. Then she started making 'accidental' personal purchases with the joint card. It began with a pharmacy trip, then dinners with friends, clothes, salon visits, concert tickets, streaming subscriptions, and more. I asked her to stop because it was disrupting our budget.
She repaid a few purchases but not all of them, and said I was making her feel judged.
Last month, the account overdrafted because she used the joint card when her personal account was low. When I asked why, she said it wasn't my business. I pointed out that if the joint account is covering it, then it is.
This week, I got an alert that the account had dropped below $200. I checked and found a $480 furniture purchase. She said she bought a desk for our place so she could make yoga videos at home. I told her it wasn't a shared necessity and she should've discussed it first."
Woman: "She called me controlling and said I was treating her like a thief. She also said she feels financially unsafe because I monitor the account. I explained that I only track the joint account because it's for shared bills.
After that, I changed my direct deposit back to my personal account and set up an automatic transfer to the joint account for my share of the bills plus a small buffer. I also stopped carrying the joint debit card and only use it for household expenses.
She says I betrayed her, that I'm ruining the relationship over a few mistakes, and she's telling our friends that I cut her off financially.
Am I the asshole for separating my money again, or is this a reasonable boundary when someone keeps blurring the line?
