Christian nationalists keep insisting America was founded as a "Christian nation" by men who all believed exactly like them. History says otherwise. Most Founders belonged to churches. But the architects of the republic were a mix. Jefferson cut the miracles and resurrection out of the New Testament and kept the ethics. Paine wrote The Age of Reason, a broadside against organized Christianity. Washington spoke of "Providence" and the "Great Architect" and rarely took communion. Adams died a Unitarian who rejected the Trinity. They were not secret atheists. They were culturally Christian men who had watched religious wars tear Europe apart and said, "Not here." So they wrote a Constitution with no religious test and a First Amendment that bars an established church. The tent was built big on purpose. The point is not that every Founder could pass an evangelical litmus test. It is that they chose liberty of conscience over religious uniformity. A confident republic tells that story instead of airbrushing the record to win a culture war.

The Republican Speaker of the House said that we need to increase the military budget from the already over $1 trillion each year, to $1.5 trillion to fight the communist threat on our shores. 🔸There is no communist threat. 🔸We do not and should not use the US military against the American public. 🔸The second-most-expensive military is only $336 billion. 🔸The US military is filled with waste, fraud, and abuse. The Pentagon is the only government department that has never passed an audit. 🔸We're told we had to kick one million children off of food assistance and millions off of healthcare to save money. Both cost a small fraction of the proposed increase in military spending. We're constantly fed the lie that we can't possibly afford to make sure everyone has food and healthcare, only to watch Congress turn around and spend lavishly on things we don't need. This has to stop.

America has a corrupt government that continues to test what it can get away with. They do this because they are not held accountable, and by doing it over and over, it stops shocking people. If you think it isn't happening to you, ask yourself when was the last time you thought or read about the US performing extrajudicial killings on boats in the ocean. No judge, no jury, just executioner. It never stopped. More than 60 boats have been attacked, and over 200 people killed. When was the last time you felt outraged that Trump was pardoning criminals in exchange for bribes and favors? It is still happening. 11 people have been pardoned this month alone. No ICE agent has been held accountable for shooting people to death in the streets. No one has been held accountable for blowing up an elementary school full of children, and the nation has simply moved on from the story. This is what happens when federal power goes unchecked, when people tune out. Congress isn't doing its job of being a check against the executive, and the people aren't doing enough to hold their representatives accountable. Fortunately, there is one easy way to show that this corruption is unacceptable. Vote in November to change the balance of power in Washington.
