My Crimson Desert Review (W.I.P.) TLDW: Crimson Desert is a game that fundamentally changes our perception of what is possible in the medium. Its open-world, exploration, and sheer scale all offer something that almost no other game has even attempted. It's NOT perfect: there are bugs, occasional quality dips, and its scope can sometimes leave ideas on the table for too long, but overall I'm thoroughly impressed. After 60+ hours I'm loving it. I think it will probably take me 120+ to roll credits and likely 300+ for a completionist run; even so, I cannot wait to see what else the game has tucked away for me to find and I'm actively playing it even while writing this pinned comment. It won't be for everyone, and I expect the game-journalist memes will FLOW considering its lack of hand-holding, but it's definitely for me. youtu.be/zytQQZVqdCQ

@TheRealZephryss The one thing that annoys me the most is that there is no chatter in the camp. I hope that is not the case in the rest of the world, busy towns etc... otherwise the towns will feel dead.

More details on Crimson Desert from Pearl Abyss' IR session at Kiwoom Corp Day in 2024: 🟢 Crimson Desert will offer around 50 to 80 hours of gameplay and will have a definitive ending as a single-player game. 🟢 Developers expect Crimson Desert to sell around 3 to 4 million copies on the market. Internally, they are aiming for 4 to 5 million copies. 🟢 The target market includes fans of games like The Witcher 3, Assassin's Creed, The Legend of Zelda, and Red Dead Redemption, which have each sold 20 to 30 million copies. 🟢 Sony compared the atmosphere and story of Crimson Desert to Ghost of Tsushima, which has sold over 10 million copies. 🟢 Unlike most console companies that develop for consoles first and then port to PC later, Pearl Abyss developed the game on PC first because they were more familiar with PC development tools. 🟢 NPCs typically follow preset behaviors, but the developers have used AI to allow them to make decisions, resulting in more dynamic interactions. 🟢 Internally, the developers plan to release Crimson Desert next year. After that, they plan to develop multiplayer online content for the game, similar to GTA’s multiplayer mode. Of the 170 developers, around 50 will remain on Crimson Desert to work on the multiplayer component, while the remaining 100 will move on to complete DokeV.

Yep, it really feels like we’re not ready for Crimson Desert. Every new clip looks like the devs tried to fit five games into one. You can already tell this is the kind of game that makes everyone disappear for a long time.

Realistically consoles will either be 60 FPS in some kind of performance mode, or 30 FPS in a fidelity mode. Unless they have really optimised their engine for console.

The game does not lock you into fights until you win. ✅There are no distinct difficulty mode options. The player can reduce the difficulty by obtaining stronger gear before interactions. ✅Combat is built around weapon swapping/ weapon variety.
