Mar 21, 2007: In the NIT quarterfinals at Littlejohn, K C Rivers burned a career high 29 points as #Clemson snuck by Syracuse 74-70. It was the Tigers’ 24th win of the season. Jim Boeheim’s technical foul over officiating didn’t help the cause of ‘Cuse.

Mar 20, 1997: Fourteenth ranked and 4th seed #Clemson, under Coach Rick Barnes, makes it to the Sweet Sixteen. The Tigers took third ranked and #1 seed 29-3 Minnesota to double overtime at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis before losing 90-84.

Mar 19, 2019: In the first round of the NIT, the host Tigers dispose of Wright State, the school where Brad Brownell coached before accepting the position at #Clemson in 2010. The 75-69 victory was both the 20th win of the season and 20th all time NIT win for the Tigers.

Mar 18, 1970: Tates Locke is hired as #Clemson’s 16th basketball coach. He took over a program with a 50+ year record of mediocrity. Locke resigned at the end of the 1975 season after major recruiting violations were revealed, later resulting in a 3 year probation for the Tigers

Mar 17, 1990: In the 2nd round of the NCAAs, #17 Clemson faced #12 LaSalle. The Explorers, on a 22 game winning streak, put the Tigers in a 19 point first half hole. But, behind Dale Davis’ 26 points and 17 rebounds, Clemson buried LaSalle in the second half, winning 79-75.

Mar 15, 2008: Trevor Booker led all scorers with 18 as #Clemson shocked #7 Duke 78-74 in the ACC Tournament in Charlotte. The win sent the Tigers into the championship game for the first time since 1962.

Mar 14, 1981: #Clemson baseball beats Winthrop 9-5 in Rock Hill, giving Coach Bill Wilhelm the 600th of his 1,161 wins. Wilhelm would retire in 1993. The 1981 team would go on to win the ACC Championship.

Mar 13, 2014: Despite having a bit of trouble hitting from the floor, K J McDaniels was #Clemson’s leading scorer with 18. But he was 10 for 11 from the FT line and that helped the Tigers get past Georgia Tech 69-65 in the 1st round of the ACC Tournament in Greensboro.

Mar 11, 2020: In the second round of the ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament in Greensboro, #Clemson got past Miami 69-64. The two teams put on a clinic on how not to shoot 3 pointers, hitting a combined 18 out of 58. The tournament was cancelled after the 2nd round due to COVID.

Mar 10, 2005: Middle seeds #Clemson and Maryland tangled in the first round of the ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament at the MCI Center in Washington. Despite Maryland’s 49-35 edge in rebounding, the Tigers were able to claim an 84-72 win, aided by Maryland’s 23 turnovers.

Mar 9, 1912: #Clemson men’s basketball completed its inaugural season, defeating Wofford 56-13 in the Tigers’ first ever home basketball game, played on Bowman Field near Godfrey Hall. Coached by Frank Dobson, the campaign finished at 4-0, the program’s only undefeated season.

Mar 8, 1996: With an 8-4 victory over Virginia Tech at Tiger Field, #Clemson baseball gives Coach Jack Leggett his 500th career win. Leggett would have 1,332 career wins at the end of 2015, 955 of those for the Tigers. His prior HC positions were at Vermont and Western Carolina.

Mar 7, 1970: #Clemson baseball begins play at its new field (below, right) sweeping a double header from Maryland. Originally called Beautiful Tiger Field, it was renamed Doug Kingsmore Stadium in 2003. Prior to the move, the Tigers played on a field near Fike (below, left).

Mar 5, 1915: #Clemson basketball gets its first win over South Carolina, 37-29 in Columbia. The leading scorer for the Tigers was forward Robert P Thornton with 17. The team was coached by former player John Erwin (pictured), who was in his second and final year in the job.

March 4, 1989: It was Bobby Cremins vs Cliff Ellis when #25 Georgia Tech rambled into Littlejohn. The Tigers were on a roll, having upset #9 Duke a few days before. They added another ranked scalp to their collection, wrecking the Yellow Jackets in OT, 81-79.
