The ‘Godzilla Aftershock’ comic book is STILL canon to the MonsterVerse according to VFX Supervisor, Sean Konrad and the Legendary Mythology department.
He previously mentioned that Godzilla’s dorsal plates were changed due to damage from the MUTOs in 2014, but now confirming that his plates were indeed changed due to MUTO Prime’s attack in AFTERSHOCK.

@Based_SpaceGoji Maybe it has to do with the gravity well network. Maybe Godzilla ends up making landfall on skull island. Maybe since skull island is the main hub and Godzilla being powered by the power at the core of hollow earth sends a signal into space that called a new apexpredator to earth
