Nobody will argue that the Orioles got back a good haul for this. Fans still have every right to be frustrated. This was the face of their rebuild that seemed so promising at one point. Imagine me telling you right after the loss to the Rangers in the ALDS that Adley Rutschman would be traded to Boston of all places in a few years. Disappointing that this was the outcome no matter what the return is. Did they make the right move trading him? Yes, if he didn’t want to sign an extension. But for him to have a chance to play in more playoff games in Boston this year than his career in Baltimore is just disgusting.

After the Orioles acquired slugger Pete Alonso in free agency, Mike Elias declared it the start of a “new era” of Orioles baseball. Eight uneven months later, the Orioles remain a middling club, and Elias has traded Adley Rutschman, the face of the franchise. The “new era” has already brought the end of the Adley era.

In 365 games between drafting Adley Rutschman first overall in 2019 and his MLB debut, the Orioles played at a 57-win pace. In 720 games after Rutschman's debut, the Orioles played at an 87-win pace — 98 in the first 370 and 76 in the last 350. They went 0-5 in the playoffs.

Trading Adley with 1 more year of control in a potential lockout when you extended another catcher doesn’t mean rebuild to me They chose Basallo in the end and don’t want to give two catchers long term deals Sucks after Adley was the face of the franchise and their resurgence tho

It is almost unfathomable that four years to the day after Mike Elias' liftoff comment that the O's are on the verge of trading the face of the rebuild and have yet to win a playoff game in that span.
