Rebuttals to objections: Objection 1: As a Christian, you should turn the other cheek. Rebuttal: Turning the other cheek is for when you yourself are oppressed. Do you think that when I see someone raped or murdered or abused, I should walk on by because it would be “inconvenient” for people who aren’t the victim? This was the best timing and chance of success I could come up with. Objection 3: You didn’t get them all. Rebuttal: Gotta start somewhere. Objection 4: As a half-black, half-white person, you shouldn’t be the one doing this. Rebuttal: I don’t see anyone else picking up the slack Objection 5: Yield unto Caesar what is Caesar’s. Rebuttal: The United States of America are ruled by the law, not by any one or several people. In so far as representatives and judges do not follow the law, no one is required to yield them anything so unlawfully ordered. @NJHoekman Mijn hemel Niels, 1983, 22 jaar geleden. En hoezo geen satire. Het was focking Paul de Leeuw. Hij kende het jochie en die jongen wist wat er ging gebeuren. Toestemming van de ouders. Man, get a life.

“Het was een andere tijd.” Nee. Het was een andere mate van wegkijken. In 1983 gebeurde er op de Nederlandse televisie iets wat vandaag de dag ondenkbaar zou zijn: een volwassen man die een kind intiem benadert voor het oog van heel Nederland. Geen satire. Geen context. Gewoon: live op tv. En toch… geen consequenties. Geen maatschappelijk debat. Geen grens getrokken. Sterker nog: niet lang daarna konden hij en zijn partner versneld een kind adopteren, onder toezicht van de Raad voor de Kinderbescherming. Later volgde nóg een adoptie. Dat roept vragen op. Zware vragen. Want inmiddels weten we dat het Nederlandse adoptiesysteem decennialang structureel heeft gefaald. Misstanden, machtsongelijkheid, belangenverstrengeling, en kinderen die niet beschermd maar verhandeld werden. De overheid heeft dat inmiddels zelf erkend. Dus ja, dan vraag ik mij hardop af: ➡️ Welke rol speelden bekendheid, status en imago bij deze versnelde adopties? ➡️ Waarom werd gedrag dat nu als grensoverschrijdend wordt gezien, toen geneutraliseerd? ➡️ En hoe kan het dat instanties die geacht worden kinderen te beschermen, hierin geen rode vlag zagen? En misschien wel de meest ongemakkelijke vraag van allemaal: Hoe gaat het vandaag met die geadopteerde kinderen? Het zal je vader maar zijn, iemand van wie een moment op nationale televisie voor altijd laat zien dat hij grenzen met kinderen niet herkende of respecteerde. Ik vergelijk niemand met niemand. Maar wie denkt dat Nederland immuun is voor dezelfde blinde vlekken als het Verenigd Koninkrijk vóór Jimmy Savile, vergist zich ernstig. Dit gaat niet over één persoon. Dit gaat over een systeem dat beroemdheid verwart met betrouwbaarheid, en over een samenleving die liever klapt dan kritische vragen stelt, zolang de dader “gezellig” is. Kinderbescherming mag nooit afhangen van populariteit. En zwijgen uit ongemak is geen neutraliteit, het is medeplichtigheid. Tijd om het hier wél over te hebben.
