Dysphoria is real, a gendered soul inside the wrong body is not. There is no gender, only personalities, with the latter on a spectrum from masculine men to effeminate men, but the Y-chromosomes make them men, regardless of differences on prenatal hormones. The idea of being polite disappeared about 10 seconds after demanding to use women's restrooms and sports...

@TimConradB623 @michaelshermer I would argue that someone if someone is receiving gender affirming care for professional diagnosed gender dysphoria, the polite thing to do would support their care by using whatever pronoun they'd like. In part because it reflects the reality of their diagnosis. Which is real.

Certainly it's complicated, but the offensive part of the "affirming" treatment of the delusion is the idea that the rest of society has an obligation to pretend and affirm a lie, to the point of writing new articles referring to men as of they are women. If someone is in a psychiatric facility and people want to use "her" for treating a dysphoric man, great. But in the real world, truth is paramount, agree?

@TimConradB623 @michaelshermer Gender affirming care is shown to work. "Affirming reality" has not. If someone says they are Napoelon, doesn't that indicate an illness that must be treated? My point is that gender dysphoria is much more complicated than "men are not women".

So how do you evaluate treatments of people with mental disorders? I believe in most cases that affirming reality is a starting point. If you're born a man, you're always a man. If you're a man who wants to pay for boobs and can afford it and have a doctor that will do it, great, have at it. But then you're a man with boobs and you can't change that. If you lie and tell someone that they really are Napoleon, and they prefer that, is that a success?
