In honor of Chuck Norris' passing, here is the all-time best segment from Conan's LATE NIGHT series of out-of-context WALKER, TEXAS RANGER clips. youtube.com/watch?v=K2_SvX…

MARC BY SOFIA, Sofia Coppola's warm portrait of her longtime friend Marc Jacobs, illustrates the rewards and limitations of being too close to your subject.

On Monday night, March 23, I'll be moderating a Q&A with Sergei Loznitsa at the Aero after a screening of TWO PROSECUTORS, the first must-see movie of this new year. Tickets and info at @am_cinematheque: americancinematheque.com/now-showing/tw…

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller specialize in approaching well-known genres with an irreverent sense of humor. For PROJECT HAIL MARY, they apply that strategy to the grandeur of sci-fi classics like 2001. screendaily.com/reviews/projec…

“At their core, the Academy Awards are really about uplifting and reassuring the masses: that movies can change the world, that movies still matter, that artistic dreams can come true,” writes @TimGrierson in his recap on this year’s Oscars. rogerebert.com/festivals/at-t…

For @ebertvoices, I wrote about last night's Oscars, which were a mixture of terrible presenter banter, some moving speeches, and a lot of unease about the road ahead. rogerebert.com/festivals/at-t…

@ChuckWilsonLA I had also never seen that Oscar performance -- I didn't realize Dionne Warwick sang the song on the show. youtube.com/watch?v=_Gpd69…

@TimGrierson I love the NORMA RAE song (from a great opening title sequence). It plays in my head all the time. And it did the thing the category winner is supposed to do—it served and set up the themes of the film. Its sin was taking the moment from Kermit (also a pretty good song).

Since 1980, my dad has been mad that THE MUPPET MOVIE's "Rainbow Connection" didn't win Best Song at the Oscars. (It lost to "It Goes Like It Goes" from NORMA RAE.) I had never seen Kermit's performance -- or Johnny Carson doing a bit with Miss Piggy. youtube.com/watch?v=QY9uaW…

@DonaldClarke63 Yeah, I'm very glad she has an Oscar but not for that film.
English

@TimGrierson Oh gawd, yeah. Viola Davis is very good in a film that aged like milk in the noon-day sun.
English

Good listing action by Tim. My disagreements are all mild (well, maybe apart from the second place). Main takeaway is: golly, a lot of great actors winning for the wrong role.

For @RollingStone, I updated my rankings of every Best Actress Oscar winner from this century. (This is probably the only list on the internet in which Meryl Streep is dead last.) rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv-m…

@DonaldClarke63 It's a stunningly awful movie. I went back and looked at the Best Actress nominees. Pretty weak field. (I'd have gone with Mara.)

English

@TimGrierson Iron Lady is an incredibly bad film. I remember it confusing both right and left observers as it was so politically unmoored neither could decide what they should be angry about.
English

It's that time of year: I really enjoyed reading @Screendaily's rundown of which films might premiere at Cannes -- and which ones probably won't. screendaily.com/features/whats…

@DonaldClarke63 Of all of them, Kidman's is the most dispiriting. Nearly a decade of incredible roles ... and also THE HOURS.
English

@TimGrierson Yeah. More so than actor, I’d contend. Winslet, Kidman, Chastain, Streep (though obviously she already had a brace). In my Oscar quiz today I score by Streep Noms, and I have Iron Lady as the bottom category. (It’s too easy today. I wouldn’t waste your time)

@intothecrevasse @Screendaily "Wildin' out, fishtailin', Subaru, rally car" is a not-bad description of the terrible thing in the past that caused all the problems in REMINDERS OF HIM.

@TimGrierson @Screendaily I hope that you, like me, have been recently enjoying yourself saying "I THINK I'M BIG MEECH / COLLEEN HOOVER" in Rick Ross voice
