Here’s my question with the Giants: If Sonny Styles is not there at 5, is anybody else actually worth the 5th overall pick? Mauigoa is not a top 5 prospect in the class, Downs is good but is he truly an elite safety? If Styles is gone, Jeremiyah Love might make the most sense.

@Chris_NYY28 Nonsense. Even Jeremiah who is weakest on him has him in the top 10. He’s been elite from the second he stepped on the field at alabama. Best player on the field last year at OSU. 3x all american. Thorpe award winner. Never missed a game. Best player in the class imo.

during Ramadan my husband, who is Catholic, refused to eat during lunch so that he could sit in solidarity with his Muslim co-workers. despite their reassurances, he said he felt bad. So today, which is a holy day (Good Friday) for us Catholics, his Muslim friends fasted with him until noon and no one had meat. they all had vegan/vegetarian meals. my heart is so grateful for these signs of love ❤️

@Ourlads_Sy I’d like to see more impact plays. Shooting gaps, jumping in passing lanes. There’s none of that on tape. He closes on angles that seem impossible and seems to have the ideal mental makeup but there’s just too much projection for me to feel comfortable at 5 overall.

@DanSchneierNFL @NYCSportsAddict I’ll add that simply labeling Styles any other LB does him a major disservice. His tape (esp down the stretch) already projects as a very high end 3 down LB. His traits-athleticism and ability to affect the pass game project a lot like Kyle Hamilton. The trajectory is way up.

I’ve said this before and I will say it again: You cannot, under any circumstances, take a linebacker at Pick 5. Absolutely fucking not. No way. - He would have to literally be Fred Warner, a player eons above the next-best player at his position, to be worth taking at Pick 5 - You wouldn’t get a 5th-year option or the ability to franchise tag him because linebackers are grouped in with edge rushers, so the figure is absurdly high - He’d already be making $11.5M a year as a rookie, which is very significant money for a linebacker (you basically get no rookie contract advantage) - This is one of the deepest linebacker draft classes in recent memory - It’s always easy to find high-end linebackers in the draft and in free agency compared to almost every other offensive and defensive position - We just saw Devin Lloyd and Devin Bush, two elite linebackers entering only their age-28 seasons, not only hit free agency, but get only $15M and $10M a year, respectively - Linebackers don’t age very well, especially ones who are reliant on their athletic ability, like he is - His skyrocket into the top-5 conversation coming right after the combine is extremely suspicious and it’s because the tape is not even close to being “generational” - He played in a fantastic Ohio State defense

I’m completely out on taking Sonny Styles at 5, man. Any outcome worse than Fred Warner, as a LB, wouldn’t be worth taking at Pick 5. And you cannot draft a guy relying on him becoming a generational player like that. And no, miss me with the bullshit take that he’s BPA. None of you buffoons were even remotely mentioning Styles in top-5 conversations until the combine. Stop letting the combine completely override film like that. He’s just not some generational LB prospect. It would be such an awful, waste of a pick.

I don’t know if this is a Hot Take but I feel Caleb Downs would help our Run Defense more than Sonny Styles. As far as Run Defense I’m CONFIDENT Downs is already Elite there. Styles is very good there but his value comes with hope is Styles can be a Fred Warner type coverage LB.

For the 5th pick I'm still putting my $20 on Sonny Styles over Caleb Downs to the Giants. John Harbaugh: "If they run the ball for 4, 5 yards, that is the end of the world. That's a disaster. If it breaks out past that, we can't even breathe...We want the run stopped... "We want the run stoned." Harbaugh wants a big, physical, all-weather defense that mirrors the championship Giants teams of the past. Styles is 5 inches taller & 40 pounds heavier than the safety, Downs. He's going to look awfully good walking off that bus and then staring across the line at the QB. If the Titans don't take Jeremiyah Love, it gets very interesting. But first and foremost, what's worked for the Giants when they've won Super Bowls is that nasty defense...followed by a strong offensive line....followed by opportunistic QBs who weren't superstars but who could play like a superstar when it mattered most (Simms, Eli). Priority No. 1 for Harbaugh is stopping the run, as he made clear again at the league meetings. And Styles-an elite athlete who doesn't miss tackles-meets that objective more than any candidate for pick No. 5. Yeah, the Giants signed Tremaine Edmunds for 3 years. But Harbaugh wants to coach the NYG for at least 10 years. Downs would be a great pick too and JH loves his gifted, versatile safeties. Styles just makes a bit more sense.

@ItsGiantsSzn It’s a pathological defense of Lamar. Lamar is the most important part of the franchise and psychologically they need him to be infallible to feel best about their current situation. In the face of playoff disappointments the blame gets directed everywhere else. Time will tell.

Here is what I will say on Jeremiyah Love I am NOT in favor of taking a RB top 5 However if the Giants take him I am sure I will LOVE (pun intended) having him on the team HOME RUN HITTER if there ever was one At the end of the day… he will help you win games 🤷‍♂️

@DanSchneierNFL Disagree on instincts. Flashes potential but doesn’t make plays behind the LOS. Average laterally. You can see him processing which slows him down. Huge gap between the fantasy of what he COULD be as an athlete vs the reality of what he is as a football player rn.
