@ChrisTheDaneLa1 Same - I think this format may even have a higher amount of very bad pools because of all the two-color specific uncommons - if you don't open the fixing to use them you can be pretty stuck playing a mid-tier 2 color deck

@MrChecklistcard I was in this event too. Is it too much to ask to pull some potioner's troves? Even one would have made your UR deck great imo. My pool felt almost unplayable bc of no fixing and lots of unsynergistic 2-color uncommons

My UR deck would have been this weird combo kill deck I think, because it doesn't have enough removal to have inevitability. Wish I had boarded into this in my last round though to give it a spin sealeddeck.tech/gcVYCu8PfK

Day 2 of the Arena Qualifier weekend I opened Emeritus of Ideation, Colorstorm Stallion, Wisdom of the Ages and Magmablood Archaic, yet still decided to play WB because of how my gold cards and removal lined up. Went 2-2, back at it for Day 2 next month 😰

@lsv @fireshoes Had a terrible open, 0 troves with almost an unplayable pool, and got completely destroyed by 2 double trove, multiple mythic decks. Not the best time to run bad sadly =(

Got there with a bit of a brew, just barely. Beat out an All is One/Moment of Reckoning deck with a traumatic critique for 10 to just barely squeak out the final win. So, cheers for tomorrow @lsv and @fireshoes

Hat trick for three boxes in a row! I just wanted to do my dailies, but I had enough in the tank for one more try and coasted to box #4 overall with Abzan planeswalkers. We'll open one box with the kids and send the rest to new homes on FB marketplace, @fireshoes

Here are the win screens, plus a funny victory where I Biblioplexed my opponent out by copying it with the blue mythic, hehe

I decided to hit the Direct hard this weekend. I fired 17 bullets and won 3 boxes + over 100 packs, the last 2 wins were back to back. It's a format where one card can blow you out, so either going above everyone else or below them seems like the best way to win. @fireshoes

My first time drafting the BF/LED/Breach deck (it's easier with a real lotus ^^) and got the god-hand turn 0 win. Thanks @lsv for all your content, it's a new frontier for me but winning before your opp takes a game action feels pretty sweet

@jakeformayor The only problem is that MH3 cards are so complicated that it's a bit hard for my kids to even use the cards. Japanese Phlage? Japanese Nadu? Japanese Sorin Markov flip card? How can anyone remember what these all do, let alone my poor 10-year old with his janky decks, haha

@TimMac70 Oof. Sold listings had JP MH3 at ~$180 so I applied a 25% hit to resale. Glad the kids enjoyed it!

Arena Direct this weekend is another STAY AWAY. BLB Japanese Play Boosters literally don't have a market. Zero sold on eBay/TCGplayer in the US at this point. If they sell similar to JP MH3, you're getting roughly $110 each. With a $40 tax hit, you're clearing ~$57 per box.🤮

@lsv Happy Easter! I suppose if one aspect of this is how many "non-games" the system produces, would you consider the Arena Bo1 hand smoother to be an improvement? Or maybe it's bad bc it's less representative of OG magic?

@Sierkovitz I don't think you did anything wrong! I just have low confidence that they will manage things properly, and I'm used to seeing the tooltip tell me that I'm Qed. When they turned it on for me, the tooltip did show correctly, so maybe next time harass them until it shows there

Rant incoming. WotC customer service is shambles. Long story: after fucking up my Qualifier weekend 3 times preventing me from playing I got a message that they **out of courtesy** give me 20 play in points. Next time spit me in the face. Same thing. 1/5

@jakeformayor Does this count as "pure"? If so, it's the only pure golgari win as of the time you took your screenshot here

7-0 with Orzhov for box #1. My best tip for Arena Direct this weekend: play WB. So far, it has 40.2% of all 17lands trophies. That's 2x what we've expect in a five archetype set. For context, Golgari is the runner up 13.7% of trophies. Orzhov is dominating, black = good.

Speedrun on first bullet to win possibly the first box of anyone (1hr18 min after the start)! I made huge mistakes because I don't play this format, but still managed to get there. Cheers @lsv and @fireshoes

@jakeformayor I stole two copies of Untamed Wilds from Legends from a sell binder in my local store when I was a little kid (I think I was 12), because I didn't have $8 to buy them. I still think about it. Sorry, TCG Collectibles in Fayetteville, I shouldn't have stolen the cards. =(

When I was a kid, I stole a bunch of Magic starter decks and keychains and shit from the mall and got caught. At my sentencing thing, the guy asked me what I'd do if I found a wallet. "Return it," I said in a second. "They'll give me a reward." Learned that was NOT the answer 🫠
Lady Lawya@Parkerlawyer

I received an email through my website’s contact form from a teenager that said: “I found your wallet.” Attached was a photo of my Prada wallet with my driver’s license, debit card, and credit cards inside. She wrote, “Please call me so I can get it back to you.” The crazy part? I didn’t even know it was lost. She had found it in the parking lot of a strip mall where I get my nails done. When I called her, she said she’d been worried for hours because she knew that when I realized it was gone I would be “frantic.” I then spoke to her mom, who sent me their address. I drove about 30 minutes to their house to get it. When I got there I was so overwhelmed by her kindness that I cried. Her mom was standing on the front porch beaming and said, “I’m doing my best to teach my kids that doing the right thing matters.” I handed her a $100 bill. She smiled huge and thanked me. I told her the only person who deserved thanks was her. I mentioned the wallet was designer because a lot of 16-year-olds would have kept it. It was expensive. She didn’t. A lot of people would have used the credit cards inside. She didn’t. Instead, she spent hours worried about how I would feel when I realized it was gone. Friends, please know that good and honest humans absolutely exist. And when you’re faced with a decision, ask yourself, “What would I hope a stranger would do if the situation were reversed?”

@BenS_MTG I played this deck and gave you the loss, but then immediately ran into a Tristan's Command Maralyn deck that cleaned me out. =( This format is a real gamble

@ddale8 I work with Congolese refugees whose families are being affected by the fighting South Kivu. Just in the last two weeks the fighting has intensified significantly, with use of drones that they hadn't seen before. Things are definitely worse than they have been.

Trump has not ended eight wars. Among other problems with his list, it includes: - A diplomatic dispute between Egypt and Ethiopia that was not a war - Some sort of mystery situation between Serbia and Kosovo that also was not a war - The war in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo that has not ended despite a Trump administration-brokered peace agreement never signed by the rebel group leading the fighting

@BenS_MTG From my experience, the number alone isn't enough to tell whether you're going to be safe. If you've played a ton and your number doesn't move much when you win or lose, then it's sticky and you'll be fine. But if you only just got there, it may yet move a lot. Worth monitoring

@rcondon_ But the most predatory aspect was the structure - letting you try both drafts an infinite amount of time at the same time encourages gambling behaviors. One day 2 qualifier per person would be more ethical, like the Opens (which I think everyone likes)

@rcondon_ Yea, my experience was similar, a fair amount of runs and not great showings on the draft 2. This event felt predatory and I definitely felt worse after the weekend. There were lots of crushers too - I played Matt Costa, Darkestmage and Unclecardboard. I'm normally 61% winrate

What a frustrating, fun, and disheartening weekend all at the same time. Feel like it's good to be transparent -- I spent $800 on 42 runs at the ALCQ, with a 55.1% WR and making it to draft 2 twice (1-2 each). Thoughts below I guess, they're pretty similar to everyone else
