I want to share with you some pretty big news. Premier @JacintaAllanMP has asked me to serve as the Parliamentary Secretary for Men’s Behaviour Change, a national first.

So honoured to speak today about the next critical steps of the Violence Reduction Unit, in supporting at risk kids to stay in school and out of trouble. It was an honour to join the Deputy Premier @BenCarrollMP and Katie Hall MP at the inspiring Les Twentyman Foundation, to announce the roll out of Early Intervention Officers in 23 schools across Victoria. The data is clear, when kids stay connected to education, they build a future full of purpose, not crime. Because violence is not inevitable, it is preventable and this is the vital work of Victoria’s Violence Reduction Unit.

Lots happening in Edithvale! Would love to hear from you this morning. 👋 We have the Edithvale CFA All Fired Up Fun Run this Sunday, which is one of the best events of the year. 🚒 🏃‍♀️ 🏃‍♂️ And it was wonderful to again connect with the legends at Edithvale Life Saving Club after another huge Club2Club Swim and hear how they are doing so well with new members. ❤️💛

Busy times in Mordialloc and keen to hear from you this morning. 🏗️ 🚊 Over the next two months we ramp up works to deliver a level crossing free Mordialloc and a brand new station. We will see disruptions to train services, with buses replacing trains from the end of April through to May 21. 🚌 We will see the boom gates removed at McDonald Street during this time. 🚧 And we will see the opening of the brand new Mordialloc Train Station on May 21. 🚉 Thank you for your patience during these substantial works and a shout out to the many hundreds of workers making this possible. 🙏

Violence like this shocks our community. Stronger consequences and early intervention is how we respond. The Violence Reduction Unit has now deployed in Mernda to stop this violence spreading.

Happy International Women's Day! 💜 This year's theme is 'Balance the Scales' - making sure that every girl and woman gets a fair go, and is safe, heard and free to shape her own future. As a dad to two beautiful daughters, this is especially important to me and my family. We must do all we can to support women and girls in our workplaces, community groups, sporting clubs. We must challenge and remove the barriers women face and the gendered norms and attitudes that impact them each and everyday. As Victoria’s Parliamentary Secretary for Men’s Behaviour Change, we are striving for a society where men and boys are upstanders to damaging gender stereotypes, calling out poor behaviours and stopping gendered violence - because it starts with us men and boys! It's been a great week celebrating International Women's Day in Parliament alongside our majority-women government and with colleagues from all sides of Parliament. A big shoutout to Mary-Anne Thomas MP our Minister for Women, and Premier @JacintaAllanMP for your incredible work across government in making the lives of Victorian women and children fairer each and every day.

The Grand Prix precinct is zooming with over 465,000 attendees expected! 🏎️ 🇦🇺 🇬🇧 It was an absolute honour to join British High Commissioner, HE Dame Sarah MacIntosh DCMG, the Acting British Consul-General to Victoria, Mrs Sunny Ahmed alongside my parliamentary colleague, David Southwick at the UK Government Dinner Reception at the Formula 1 Grand Prix. We had the chance to hear from McLaren Racing and the Great Barrier Reef Foundation on a truly remarkable partnership helping to protect the Reef! 🪸 It was a tremendous honour to represent Premier Jacinta Allan and celebrate the incredible partnership between the UK and Australia and Victoria across many industries. The opportunities are brighter than ever and the collaboration only gets stronger. Except on the Formula One track when Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris go head to head! 🏎️ 🏎️ And with 70 million people turning their attention to Melbourne this weekend around the world, it is yet another massive opportunity example of Victoria’s amazing events calendar. 🌏

If you commit a crime like rape, you don't have good character. And you don't deserve glowing references. That's why we're scrapping so-called 'good character' references in sentencing. Because too often, victim-survivors are forced to sit there and listen to excuses. Letters praising the very person who harmed them. As if being a "good bloke" cancels out the violence you perpetrate. It doesn't. And it won't anymore. Our justice system should never retraumatise victims to protect the image of offenders. We'll always stand with victims of crime and make it clear: violence has consequences and your safety comes first.

Our Violence Reduction Unit is partnering with Think Village to intervene early. Stopping gangs from grooming and recruiting our young people into a life of crime. And teaching parents to recognise the tactics used by these child-abusing crime gangs. There are no easy solutions to youth crime but the best approach is always to stop crime before it starts.

The safety of workers is critical and so are the facts. There’s been a lot said about the CFMEU and Victorian workers this week. We stand firmly for workers’ rights. For fair pay, safe workplaces, and secure conditions. No one should fear having their wages cut or their hard-earned entitlements clawed back. And we can’t let this serious issue be the subject of untested and unfounded information. Victorians deserve honesty and workers deserve protection, not political games and the deep desire of the Liberals to claw back workers pay and conditions.
