🎒🎒🎒 Investment idea: BACKPACK 🎒🎒🎒
backpack.exchange/join/cryptoplay
This is going to be abit longer but should serve as a quite important post.
In the prior cycles I always made the mistakes to bet on too many different things. In 2017 I had positions in over 100 coins, last cycle still a couple dozen. This cycle I will try to stay below 10.
Backpack will be the first strategic small cap I will alocate to for mid/longterm (aka next cycle). Plan is to alocate around 2.5% of the 100% that are dedicated to crypto exposure until end of this year. I currently have only filled around 10% of my target exposure.
I will now go abit more into detail why I like Backpack🎒 as an investment and also as an exchange.
Backpack by itself is just another albeit new CEX that is build by Solana OGs. Tale has it that FTX wiped 88% of operating capital and Armani Ferrante (founder) decided it's time to build a better FTX.
They are trying to be HIGHLY COMPLIANT so have quite extensive KYC upon onboarding. However their support so far has been excellent.
In general I think there is alot of space in this market for a compliant exchange with a good customer service and cheap fees. Something like this is currently non existant! To give you an idea their fees are on par with Binance and Bybit. Hypercompliant exchanges like Coinbase or Bitpanda are magnitudes more expensive!!! (see attachments).
I see the chance here to get in fairly early - not really ground floor early because their airdrop campaign is already done, but still quite early in the grand scheme of things IF (BIG IF) the thesis plays out.
🥛Also I want to be as transparent as possible: Since it is early it is also very interesting for me as an affiliate because I could really move the needle with signups here because I think alot of people arent even aware something like Backpack exists.
Compliance also isnt just a talking point here. VARA (Dubai) + MiCA/MiFID II/PSD2 (all 27 EU states) + Japan JVCEA — a license stack most competitors, including Binance in the EU, currently can't match.
There are also quite some points I consider as great to have and sometimes even outright innovative. Most other exchanges dont have those:
1. 💸Collataral earns t-bill rate. You can trade vs your collataral USD while at the same time earning 3%++ on the balance. For higher level VIPs you can earn up to 3% on top so something like 6%++ on USD
2.🏦 free wires in your name. I tested it and cashed out 175usd to my bank in Manila. Do you know how much money arrived? 175usd!!! I think independent on status you get one wire per month free and then dependent on VIP status. You can only send to accounts in your name
3. 🥩staking for Equity: Stake BP to earn the right to exchange your tokens for Backpack equity at IPO, plus lower trading fees, extra USD yield, free wires, and more. Real skin in the game and currently over 60% of tokens are staked. I think this staking for equity is somewhat revolutionary. The team gets nothing unless the company actually IPOs. ZERO allocation to VCs at launch.
4. 🫥attractive valuation: Backpack currently trades under 600m FDV. Binance and Hyperliquid trade at 60B++. Crypto.com around 6b which would be a 10x. While I dont think this is going to flip Binance I still think this illustrates that there is some nice upside potential.
5. 📈REAL stock trading/investing! Not synthetic. Not CFDs. Real shares with dividends and shareholder rights, same legal standing as holding at Schwab or IBKR. You can buy TSLA on a sunday morning and have them transfer it to your IBKR account if you decide to do so.
⚠️Those were the positives. Now to the stuff which isnt great:
They still lack proper US licensing and are only present in 11 states. Also lacking licensing in UK, Germany, Australia, or Singapore but I am sure that they are working on it.
Coin selection is quite thin compared to something like Binance and the exchange obviously doesn't have a big track record.
