Merz is exactly right. The Chinese, Indians and Turks were all buying Russian oil and defying sanctions before this decision. The only thing Trump’s move of lifting sanctions does is allow Putin to sell his oil at a higher price. It doesn’t change anything in the supply/demand equation which would lower oil price. A catastrophic move just when Putin was really starting to feel the economic pain.

Merz: We discussed Russian oil and gas deliveries with the US President in the G7 this week. Six members clearly said this sends the wrong signal. This morning we learned the US government apparently decided otherwise. We think this is wrong — there’s a price issue, not a supply shortage. I’d like to know what other motives are behind this temporary decision.

Would you invest £215,000 in a company run by the man you said “broke Britain”? @Nigel_Farage has. He’s backing a crypto scheme led by the architect of Liz Truss’s disastrous budget. Don’t be fooled by the @reformparty_uk rebrand - they're the Tories 2.0

Due to reported missile attacks, British nationals in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and United Arab Emirates should immediately shelter in place. Remain indoors in a secure location, avoid all travel and follow instructions from the local authorities.

The very reason that you have the right to protest is because this great man stood up against tyranny and Nazism. His leadership provided you the freedom and the security to object and to stand up for what you believe in. To disgrace his legacy is a prime example of utter stupidity and a lack of understanding as to what this great nation is all about.

Borrowing this year is forecast to be lower than in any year since the pandemic. And we are on track to more than halve borrowing by the end of the decade. Conservatives sounding off today about sound public finances, should remember they public finances legacy they gifted us. Lowest interest rates ever and they still managed to drive the debt up and drve our investment down. Jokers.
Dan Tomlinson MP@Dan4Barnet

Public sector borrowing down by 11.5% so far in 2025/6 compared to 2024/5. This is a sizable reduction, it's happening because this government is focused on improving our public finances and the economy - alongside making sure we are getting investment up for the long-term.

Gutted, but so proud, Macclesfield gave it their all against Brentford in the FA Cup. One of those nights where it just doesn’t go your way, but the determination and the heart, were unreal. That’s what the Cup’s all about. Heads up, Silkmen, you've made history already👏⚽️

Anas Sarwar was accused of “treacherous” behaviour at tonight’s PLP. Joanna Baxter made the comment through tears and “pleaded with the PM not to give up on Scotland”, sources say. Those in the room said it was an uncomfortable moment, given the intervention came in front of other Scottish MPs who “privately agree with Anas but have clearly bottled following him over the top”. Two more MPs also raised Starmer’s judgement on appointing Mandelson directly with the PM: Charlotte Nichols and Rachael Maskell. So still a few rumblings at a meeting otherwise filled with calls for unity.

We’ve now got the spectacle of almost every member of the cabinet - chancellor, foreign secretary, deputy pm, et al , and even the ousted deputy leader Angela Rayner - putting out statements or going on TV to tell us how lucky we are to have Keir Starmer as prime minister. Which is never a good look for a prime minister. It smacks of utter panic as the good ship Labour Government heads remorselessly for the eye of the storm. Starmer’s payroll colleagues may well be right that most British people don’t want a new pm. Per contra, MPs who don’t benefit from his patronage are telling me that they have barely ever encountered anger from voters like what they are witnessing and feeling in relation to Peter Mandelson’s too-close relationship with the billionaire paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. The fury on the doorsteps and in their streets about Starmer’s unwise appointment of Mandelson to the plum job of US ambassador exceeds even what was directed at Boris Johnson during Partygate, they say. And look what happened to Johnson. This is why Labour’s leader in Scotland Anas Sarwar has just done something unique: he has called on Starmer to quit, because he fears his party will be massacred in the May elections to the Scottish parliament if Starmer remains PM. Sarwar felt he had no choice but to detach Scottish Labour from UK Labour, because Scottish voters don’t want to touch Starmer with a several-hundred-mile-long barge poll. It’s quite something for the leader of a party that is committed to Scotland remaining in the UK saying that the UK premier is a recruiting sergeant for the party, the SNP, that wants to take Scotland out of the UK. But Sarwar would say that desperate times require desperate measures. The only people laughing are the leaders of every other party.

Many constituents have been in touch regarding the current drama in Westminster. I'm clear that the public gave this government a strong mandate, and we should respect it. Keir Starmer has my full backing as he leads the work of delivering on our promises to the country. End of.
