The Soviet Union went from people eating dirt and living in huts to industrializing on such a massive scale that it defeated Germany and developed nuclear weapons.
Everyone had housing, guaranteed jobs, and healthcare when they needed it.

If white people deserve exclusive credit for "ending slavery," then white people built the system, ran the system, defended the system, went to war to preserve the system, and then at the very last moment, after centuries of resistance from the people inside it made it unsustainable, signed the paper.
And kept all the credit.
That's not a legacy of moral leadership.

The ACA was designed to subsidize coverage *because* health care is very expensive, which makes health insurance is very expensive.

The reality is that over 90% of people on the ACA require subsidies. If it was affordable why are subsidies required? Many people on the ACA exchange can’t afford the deductibles and other costs sharing. Then if you can afford the premiums and deductibles, 20% if claims are denied. It isn’t all bad news though, the insurance companies have made billions of profits and their stocks have rocketed in value. It has also hypercharged vertical integration and gas killed off independent physicians.

ivy league grads are 0.5% of the population and more than 12 percent of all Fortune 500 CEOs, 32 percent of all New York Times journalists, and 13 percent of the wealthiest 0.1 percent of the population. everyone assumes it's the teaching. it isn't. an economics professor at Dartmouth said he doesn't think there's a big difference between Ivy Plus professors and professors at other universities. i went to columbia. the headline professors mostly handed class off to TAs. everyone's second guess is the network. also wrong on the timing. salary gaps between ivy and non-ivy grads widen over the career, not at graduation, which is exactly when prestige should matter most. the real driver is the opportunity to learn how to succeed in an environment filled with the world's most talented and ambitious people. concentration of drive. you absorb the bar by sitting next to it.
