People said Palace are shit in Europe. They called us embarrassing. Well, we just narrowly beat the 2nd best side in Cyprus. At the 3rd attempt. In extra time. After they went down to 9 men. Think a few apologies are owed.

Finding it quite amusing how ‘open play’ is suddenly this huge thing when it comes to assists now - as if a great cross from a corner/free-kick isn’t as impressive as a short pass in open play… Wonder why

@SOMMG456 @arcuaria Yes you do! That's the entire point!!! You can't ask any group of people to just firm casual abuse/negativity towards them and then pretend, as if this is somehow a "progressive" opinion, just because you've inverted the values of a mindset that is inherently conservative.

If young boys are so emasculated by a tongue in cheek pop song about how men are frequently emotionally unavailable that they find the teachings of a sex trafficking rapist relatable I don’t really think that women are the problem actually.
ImageGod@TheImageGod

WHAT ARE YOUNG BOYS SUPPOSED TO DO WHEN ALL THEY SEE IS MEN ARE TRASH AGENDAS AND CONSTANT DELUDED NARRATIVES THEN THEY SEE SOMEONE LIKE ANDREW TATE OR WHOEVER AND THEY RELATE….ALL THESE DOCS AND ESSAYS ON MEN AND MASCULINITY WHEN HONESTLY WOMEN ARE A HUGE PART OF THE PROBLEM 🤷‍♂️

@11Marcc You don't think having 190cm+ guys everywhere might contribute to scoring set pieces?

My current theory is that the reason Set-Piece goals are so prevelant in the PL is because PL teams are really bad at defending them despite having 190cm+ guys everywhere.

@returnsumtapes @Bd_irB_ll They most likely would, given the level of opposition and lower intensity of the games. There's nothing that will ever change the fact that the difference between the top and bottom teams in the bundes/ligue1 15x to 30x, versus 5x for the prem.

@TimonSenn @Bd_irB_ll This just isn’t true mate sorry, the inference here is that Villa and Newcastle plopped into Germany would win the league, scoring 100 odd when they obviously wouldn’t. PSG won the biggest of the lot btw hardly worthless

@umirf1 The underlying assumptions of this discussion prove the superiority of the premier league; why are we surprised that the 3rd best team in Spain beat a relegation candidate? Why are we surprised that domestic treble champions beat a team in 9th, unless we except them to be equal?

@returnsumtapes @Bd_irB_ll It doesn't, it just shows you how worthless of a measure winning trophies in non-competitive leagues is, if you're a team that outspends all of your domestic rivals 3-1

@TimonSenn @Bd_irB_ll It’s an end result that should question the method though, it’s so patently stupid to have those teams above Bayern that it makes the whole method clearly ineffective complex or not

@returnsumtapes @Bd_irB_ll The ratings are a bit more complex than just counting trophies, especially for teams in one-horse leagues like PSG and Bayern.

@Bd_irB_ll What could possibly have churned out this? How could PSG be below Arsenal when we haven’t won anything and they beat us on the way to winning the ucl

I have no admiration or rivalry with Arsenal, like a lot of people in the country, but the absolute state of their online fans are making everyone want City to win the league, me included

@JohnBrewin_ United-Arsenal as a rivalry is more salient globally, as those were the two main clubs when the prem was gaining most of its initial popularity overseas. All of the United fans i know personally (Scandinavians mainly) only really know of the Leeds rivalry as a historical thing.

I’d always thought only Spurs really had a proper deep-seated rivalry with Arsenal. United have Liverpool, City and Leeds. Arsenal were once their rival for honours, it got heated but calmed down. Just two big clubs, at it. Chelsea seem indifferent to Arsenal.
James.@afcjxmes

It’s because: a) We’re rivals with all of the big 6 for different reasons (Spurs/Chelsea = local; City/Pool = title; United = Fergie vs Wenger). b) This generation grew up with us as whipping boys, now we’re on top it’s annoying. United get similar but have less direct rivals.

@6_timesred Both are PSR breaches, but one was for infrastructure payments (indirect sporting benefit) while the other was for player transfers, which is a pretty fucking direct benefit!

@GiuliaBould Completely different breaches though aren’t they. Everton’s was PSR. This is off the book payments. I don’t think you can compare the two figures.

£47.5m is more than double Everton's breach that led to a Premier League record sanction of 10 points being deducted (it was recalculated to 6 on appeal) While this is a different charge, the commission said EFC "gained no sporting advantage" but still agreed a deduction.
Martyn Ziegler@martynziegler

Updated: Chelsea receive £10.75m fine from Premier League for secret payments to players + unlicensed agents during Abramovich era. £47.5m spent off the books to sign Hazard, Ramires, David Luiz, Willian, Eto'o, Schurrle, Matic. thetimes.com/sport/football…
