I had a fruitful visit from the Israeli ambassador to Ghana H.E. Roey Gilad in my Office at the Ministry of Agriculture yesterday. Our discussions focused on Research and Development in Agriculture as well as resuming internship opportunities for Ghanaian students in Israel.

You even called for reparations from the countries that benefited. But when it was time to back your words with global support, the United States, Israel, and Argentina rejected your position. Now here is where it gets uncomfortable. The same United States can accuse one Ghanaian of defrauding its citizens, and within months, you cooperate and hand that citizen over to face justice in America. Fast. Efficient. No hesitation. But when Ghana loses over 1.4 billion cedis, and the man accused, Ken Ofori-Atta, runs to the United States, a country he does not even belong to, everything slows down. No urgency. No results. No accountability. So let’s stop dressing this up. When America calls, you act. When Ghana bleeds, you pause. That is not justice. That is imbalance. That is not diplomacy. That is weakness. You cannot stand on a world stage and demand justice for the past while failing to enforce justice in the present. Because leadership is not proven by speeches at the UN. It is proven by what you tolerate at home. Right now, what you are tolerating is telling the whole world one thing: Ghana responds to power, but struggles to assert its own. Fix that or stop talking about injustice altogether.

This evening, I convened a virtual meeting with our Ambassadors and Consuls General in the Middle East to assess the latest developments and explore additional consular interventions towards the protection of Ghanaians. The Heads of Mission for Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, UAE, Iran and Turkey participated in the virtual meeting. I am glad to report that so far no Ghanaian has been killed or injured. We have put together a reliable database of all Ghanaians in these countries including those who were on short visits and those who were transiting. All missions have been tasked to identify Ghanaians within their jurisdictions who wish to be evacuated for the urgent consideration of government. Meanwhile, our diplomatic missions are currently assisting a considerable number of Ghanaians escape across certain strategic border crossings. The safety and welfare of all Ghanaians remains our utmost priority. For God and Country 🇬🇭 🙏🏾

On the instructions of President John Mahama, we have initiated negotiations with the Sékou Touré family of Guinea to allow Ghana take possession of the house Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah lived and worked as Co-President of Guinea in his last years. The Mahama Administration intends to renovate and preserve Nkrumah’s Guinea residence not only as an act of respect but also to preserve the Osagyefo’s legacy and create a full experience for tourists to follow Nkrumah’s outstanding life from Ghana to Guinea. This landmark decision was conveyed to the Sékou Touré family on Saturday when Vice President, H.E. Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang led us to visit the Sékou Touré family and also tour Nkrumah’s abandoned home after the investiture of President Mamady Doumbouya. Ghana’s delegation was well-received by three generations of the Sékou Touré family led by his eldest son. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is negotiating the terms and conditions and engaging preservation experts for this important assignment. In the spirit of transparency and accountability, the Ghanaian public shall be fully apprised at every stage. Nkrumah never dies.
