Often, resistance to fair & transparent investigations doesn’t come from the imams. Instead it’s the boards, with legal responsibility and authority, who resist. It’s crucial boards understand these principles and processes to protect the organization and fulfill its mission.

Certified sexual health educator Angelica Lindsey-Ali @villageauntie on spiritual abuse in American Muslim communities and the culture of silence amongst many Muslims in light of another allegation of child abuse by a despicable religious leader and Qur'an teacher, Wisam Sharieff. As Muslims, it is our duty to speak out against injustice and hold perpetrators accountable. Immigrant (desi/Arab) Muslim communities can learn a lot from Black American communities in dealing with such violations. No silence, no blaming freemixing or the devil's whispers, no protection for predators, no blaming mental health or the jinn, no turning a blind eye and no more excuses in the name of religion and honour.
