Researchers at Mount Sinai are advancing new strategies to improve outcomes for patients with head and neck cancer. Translational research and an early-phase clinical trial, are exploring a combination of chemotherapy and immunotherapy—known as chemoimmunotherapy—to enhance the effectiveness of immune checkpoint inhibitors in patients with locally advanced disease. Early findings show striking responses, including significant tumor shrinkage and promising disease-free survival rates. By pairing clinical trials with advanced laboratory research, Mount Sinai investigators are also studying how immune cells interact with tumors to better predict which patients will benefit most from immunotherapy-based treatments. These efforts aim not only to improve survival but also to reduce the need for additional therapies that can affect speech and swallowing. Read more in the Specialty Report: mshs.co/4utHaUg
