I am beyond grateful for times like this. And as I look back and reflect on how my junior year ended with a loss, I realized that there was much work and growth that needed to be developed. At that time I went in to talk to my head coach @CoachAGG . I asked him specifically about what it took to become the best team player I could be and what it takes to become the best player there ever was. My intentions were to become that one guy you could always count on, that one guy who took the risk, that one guy who went the extra mile and I made my goals clear to coach G (Head Coach). He informed that we did not play for our brothers that year and if I ever wanted a slight chance to become the player of the year, I would need to be DOMINANT, PERSISTENT, be a Man who will Ride For the Brand and never forget about his Brothers. I took these words to heart and I told my parents about my intentions to become the Player of the year. They knew it was a long shot but it was a shot they were willing to support (without a doubt). The phrase “I am a common man with an uncommon desire to succeed” from the Trojan Creed resonated with me. And from that moment I woke up every single day from 6-8am to Grind, to put some type of progress in because, “I never wanted to be the reason our team loss.” (Larry Wilson) Count. On. Me! I ate 7500 calories everyday. I had to eat in the middle of classes to gain the proper weight that is required of a linemen and then after school I continued to work with @justin__burch to develop towards my goal. He helped fine tune my technique, speed, and strength for an additional two-three hours each day. Then my ohana would travel and take me to be trained by Offa Academy @OFFA_Academy @CoachKofe and PowerhouseTraining @kanuch78 or other collegiate camps every weekend. Yes, I trained in the snow. Yes, I still had my college and high school work to finish. Yes, there were countless of late nights and early mornings. But I always thought of the day that I needed to be ready for when my brothers needed me to be the anchor to hold down the line, to be the one who takes that risk. That was one of the reasons why I will still never give up. So when it hurts the most, when times gets hard, And when nothing is turning out to be what you wanted. Be Persistent, and never give up. I also saw that if my true intentions were to become the player of the year I would need to help my underclassmen and fellow classmates too. Because success is built not on the shoulders of one, but the collective efforts of all. During the offseason I returned from my weekend trainings and shared with my teammates the drills and techniques I learned. We trained together to work on our craft. During that period of time we led 81 player-led trainings which brought us even closer and made us a stronger and more unified line. From those extra practices we had, our training became second nature. “Train Hard, Fight Easy.” These extra reps, sets, and trainings helped me to rack up 78 pancakes on offense, 28 tackles on defense, with 4 sacks and 6 TFL’s. These statistics are just a testament to showcase how trusting God, investing in the process, and Always betting on yourself, develops Dominance. Pain + The Process = Transformation.
