🚨BREAKING: Children were devastated after their mother was killed in an intense Israeli strike on Gaza moments ago, which destroyed an entire residential block while they were out with her buying Eid clothes ahead of Eid al-Adha.

@Nearhanuddin Why would this be a positive action? Anthropic and similar companies are already partnering with the US military for “defence” work. Not exactly a stellar ally (even just in business).

@biddeww These are, to put it mildly, disgusting manners to use when speaking about the Prophet ﷺ. You can inquire about certain topics that you find discomfort in, but speaking this way will never be even remotely acceptable, regardless of circumstance.

For example, it’s one thing to say that Muslims aren’t trying to harm anyone in the West (which is a fine thing to say), and another to be so spineless that you claim Muslims are perfectly fine with the pride movement or queer ideology, and anyone who doesn’t is an extremist.

The “religion of peace” discourse is possibly one of the worst things to come out of Islamic discourse. Anti-Islām idiots will be morons regardless of how you present your beliefs, but you’re just giving them ammo when you portray Islām as a pacifist, hyper-tolerant religion.

MT practically ex-communicating a sister for a sin that was recorded on camera. A single drop of nuance might just destroy their slippery-smooth brains.

@erica_d_stevens @pschofie79 This is already framing AI as cheating, so begging the question. I’m against it for courses that build core skills in any discipline, but not every course needs a position on either end of the spectrum.

@pschofie79 It's like instead of saying "don't cheat," you're saying, "could you PLEASE only cheat a little bit?"

You’re teaching your students to use AI *responsibly*? Well, that will make all the difference . . .

@Ann1393676 @prettycritical … cheating if they can be shown that the education and skills they gain have inherent value regardless of employability. If the goal is to get students interested in education rather than just waging a bizarre crusade against cheaters, this is an important point to acknowledge.

@Ann1393676 @prettycritical Some students will cheat no matter what. Some students will never cheat, regardless of the circumstances. Some students will only cheat if they feel they gain nothing from doing the work properly. Are the cheaters always in the wrong? Yes, but some will definitely avoid…

ya, i feel like it’s time for us to get really honest. most students using AI to do all their work do it b/c they’re lazy. they’re not secret scholars just juggling a lot of responsibilities or disillusioned by an emphasis on getting a job rather than learning. they don’t care🤷🏾‍♀️
Eugene B. Lee-Johnson, PhD@eugenejohnson_

I had four students take pics of my exam and upload them to ChatGPT while I was in the room. Lol. I gave the students a study guide for the final on the first day of class. Many students are lazy and don’t care. Cheating is rampant. AI only emboldens them.

@Ann1393676 @prettycritical … why students are lazy. I never said it is exclusively the reason, nor did I imply it. I also did not absolve students of being lazy for much more selfish or irrational reasons unrelated to their environment. If you are not willing to carefully read what I say, why engage?

@Ann1393676 @prettycritical Literally just said this isn’t justification for their actions nor does this excuse them. I also never said they are “simply products of their environment”, but that their environment is an influence on their behavior. I have also emphasized that this is *part* of the reason…

@Ann1393676 @prettycritical There seems to be this implicit premise here that by understanding that these children aren’t lazy out of nowhere or simply due to lacking principles that we’re somehow justifying/excusing their actions or giving them a free pass, which isn’t the case at all.

@Ann1393676 @prettycritical … given little importance against “marketable” skills. Do they lack integrity? Yes. Is it a large waste of the money they spend on education? Also yes. But all this shows is that their reasoning here is misguided, not that they just woke up one day and decided to be lazy.
