Russian “unarmed infantry” are increasingly being seen pressing forward in the Pokrovsk direction. Lone men heavily laden with backpacks advance without rifles, trying gain a foothold and cache supplies in shattered villages. Armed soldiers will then follow on, to their death.

Look at their faces. They don’t really look happy - more like they have to pose and are fatalistic about maybe dying in a coal mine at the age of 12. This kind of thing wasn’t successfully regulated until 1938 under FDR, following over 30 years of activism.
Good lesson in advancing standards of humanity. People argued against child labor laws under ‘freedom of contract’ theories with a straight face. It reminds me of the Cato arguments I read about increasing GDP through mass immigration at all costs - no matter if it tears society to pieces.
