Seeing lots of comments that the O’s are purely a product of tanking. That’s part of the equation. The biggest part tho, was the complete dismantling and re-building of the farm system and international scouting. The O’s brought in a stats genius with Sig, hired Koby Perez away from Cleveland to lead international scouting (something they didn’t have), hired a data driven GM in Elias, hired a manager with experience working within an analytics framework, and actually installed technology throughout the entire minor league system. They didn’t have any of that at the end of the Duquette/Showalter era. They’ve also built a development center in the Dominican (just opened). So, yeah, they traded away stars, had some down years, and positioned well in the draft. But that alone doesn’t guarantee anything. Just because a player is a high draft pick doesn’t mean they’ll be a winner. Delighted that plunking Gunnar Henderson as retaliation for Judge getting hit on what was not a purposed pitch cost the Yankees a game. Judge accuses. Verdugo threatens, Yanks bluster. Gunnar says nothing, jogs to first, steals second, scores. O's win by a run. Class will out.

@AoDespair You are saying Aaron judge is not a classy player? He took 2 pitches up & in during the same at bat, they were not intentional but he was injured. He had every right to be mad. 1 pitch up & in is fine but if you do it twice & injure the player he has a right to be upset.

Judge got buzzed inside then the next pitch was a foot outside and off the plate trying to get him leaning, then the fourth pitch was at his chin and he turned away. Now he is injured. Henderson wasn't thrown at a 2nd time.

Last series in BAL, the O’s were hit 5x. NYY once. Yankees pitching has hit 40 batters this year, most in the AL. Their batters have been hit 25x, tied for 9th in the AL. O’s pitching has hit 24 batters, tied for 2nd-fewest in AL. O’s batters have been hit 32x, t-6th in the AL.

@LumpyOatmealTTV @TaylorJackson17 @MelanieLynneN His command was totally fine, most of those balls were him afraid to come in the strike zone to judge, Soto and Stanton. He was clearly avoiding Soto. This wasn’t a control issue, the issue was coming high and tight twice in the same at bat injuring judge on the second one.

@MelanieLynneN The issue was that Judge was buzzed on the second pitch and he fought it off then the fourth pitch was in higher and tighter and hit him. Pitching inside is fine, but if you buzz a guy twice in the same at bat and then injure him, that player has a right to respond.

I miss this energy (and this broadcast) but all the Yankees need tonight is 5 or 6 scoreless innings from Cole. Winning is all that matters right now.
